The blood issue was most likely either because it was insignificant (not as important as other details of the scene) and/or not exposing a lot of blood for the younger audiences. Edit: A good example is AnimalLover917's comment about Shenzi when Simba scratched her face.

Well, it's going to bleed- look at how deep his claws are in Mufasa's, and judging by the roar Mufasa gave when he stuck them in- it hurt a lot. It's not that shocking really, I mean Disney isn't always completely innocent, there's going to be something dark or innapropriate in there every so often. Sometimes they delibrately add things that fly over the kids heads and hit the adults *cough* can you feel the love tonigh *cough*.

You think it's innapropriate because of Simba falling in Nala? It's the concept of it all. It's not only about Simba falling in love with Nala, but that's pretty much the event that brings their cub at the end, of you get what I mean. That kind of thing flies over kids' heads whereas the adults are more likely to understand it.

That is very weird, but they didn't have too much blood. That way, they could make it kid friendly.

It wouldn't have made too much sense if there wasn't at least a bit of blood, I guess. It would've been interesting to see what Simba would have done if he'd seen it though. Would he have joined the dots and realised it was Scar's fault? But yeah, he'd be much more concerned over the fact that his father was dead, and there wasn't that much blood to notice. The only other disney 2D animated film I've seen with blood in it was...Brother bear 2?

TLKCrazer's right, it's a tiny dribble of blood. If this had been realistic, Mufasa's claws would be ripped out of his paws and painfully falling off from the pressure of digging into and holding onto a vertical object, when he hit the floor he'd have blood pouring out of his mouth due to internal bleeding and many of his bone's would be sticking out of his body.
Also, there are blood in other films apart from BB2, Sleeping beauty- when she pricks her finger, Princess and the frog- Doctor Facilier is getting blood from Prince Navine when he fills up the Talisman, and although we don't see any real blood, Ursula receives a gory end in the Little Mermaid. There are more but my fingers hurt.
