The sharp tang of blood filled Mara's nose, the scent metallic and harsh. She leapt up to stand beside Coby, her tail lashing furiously. Though he was still a good fighter, he did need someone to watch his back. Sonar couldn't do everything, after all.

Claws unsheathed and eyes blazing, Mara attacked an approaching Eraser. Her claws dug into his arm, and he let out a snarl of pain. She kicked his stomach, and let go. He fell back, right on top of a few of his comrades. A small spark of satisfaction blooming inside of her, she attacked another.

A fist swung into her head, and stars danced in her vision. Mara fell back this time, dazed from the powerful blow.


Liera struggled to summon more electricity. She managed to knock away a few of the Erasers, then moved to where Malk was, needing something more powerful than her feeble sparks on her side.

Malk grinned when he saw Liera by his side, and he said quietly to her, "Quick; stun one and while he's in shock I'll break the neck." He hoped his plan would work, since these Erasers seemed strong, if not very bright.

Coby heard a yelp explode across his thoughts, and he figured it must've come from Mara. He quickly rushed over to where he sensed her presence, and whattayaknow, an oncoming Eraser, the one he heatbutted earlier, was heading straight for her. Coby dashed in between the Eraser and Mara, trying to buy her some time. He swung his fist, not taking the time to calibrate his sonar and aim, but he felt the satisfying snap of something when his fist crashed into it. Mara! he thought, trying to connect with her mind as he caught the arm of the Eraser. Are you alright?

Fine, Mara replied, blinking away the stars. The moron just whacked me in the head. She looked at Coby. What about you? A long scratch grazed his shoulder, and a few others marred his skin as well. She couldn't see anything serious, though.


Liera nodded, struggling to send out the dregs of er electricity. She must've shocked more Eraser's than she had first thought. She sent small arcs of blue lighning into the Eraser's chest.

While the Eraser was stunned, Malk swiftly moved in and clutched the side of it's neck, then snapping it with some effort. It felt strange to kill something like that, but they were threatening his family and he wouldn't stand for it. The Eraser crumpled into a mass on the floor, and Malk nodded to Liera. "Good work." he praised briefly, already looking at Coby and Mara's situation in the kitchen.

Coby held the Eraser back best he could as he answered, Oh, I'm just dandy. As he held the arm of the Eraser back with both hands, it moved it's hideous wolfy face closer to Coby's taunting him, challenging him to kill him. "Runt." he spat in his face, sneering. Then, Coby snarled, his white eyes nearly turning red with frustration. "What's the matter, wolfboy?" Coby growled, "Can't handle a runt like me?" with that, he whipped his long leg out, catching the Eraser's foot and sending him toppling.

Tail lashing angrily and ears back in fury, Mara attacked a nearby Eraser. What right did they have, breaking into their home like this? And the bacon was burning! That gave her a thought. She made her way over to the pan, where the bacon was as hard as a rock and as black as night. She could tell it was going to happen soon...and Eraser advanced, fangs posed for action.

Hurry up! Mara pleaded. The frying pan then burst into flames. Swinging it wildly, hitting some Eraser's as she did, she sent an urgent thought. Coby, tell everyone to get out! Smoke filled the air, making her cough and gag.


Liera coughed into her elbow, the gray clouds filling the air. Trying to ignore it, she shocked another Eraser, barely knocking him backwards. She was running out of electricity...

Upon hearing Mara's message, he sent out an extremely urgent telepathic message to Malk and Liera. Get out of here right away! he screamed through his mind. Hurry!

Malk cracked the neck of another Eraser, his strength dwindling from breaking so many genetically-enhanced bones and such. Suddenly, a flashing stream of words and sound exploded in his mind, and he could clearly hear Get out of here right away! he figured it was Coby, so, with the thick smoke burning his eyes, he grabbed Liera's arm and headed for the exit, hoping she heard it too and wasn't too confused.

Liera followed, having picked up the mental message clearly. She allowed Malk to lead her, the smoke stinging her eyes and blurring her vision.


Mara grasped Coby's hand, pulling him through the group of Erasers, who were too busy coughing to do anything but give a half-hearted swipe at them.

With of the thick smoke quickly filling the room, Coby was truly blind. It blocked his sonar, making him sense nothing but foggy walls all around him. He suddenly felt someone pulling him through, and by the feel of the hand he knew it was Mara, so he allowed her to guide him, feeling blind for the first time in his life.

Malk rushed hurriedly to find the exit, swinging the smoke away with his free hand to help him see better. He hoped no Erasers were following them, because if they were, he would be leading them straight to the exit. He couldn't find Coby or Mara through the smoke, and he had a miniature heart attack. Malk sincerely hoped they were okay. If not, he knew he would rush right back in to help them. He thrust his hand out and felt it touch the doorknob, just where he knew it would be, and he tried to undo the bolt as fast as he could, until he felt a furry fist crash into his shoulder.

Malk growled furiously. These guys just didn't give up, did they? He let go of Liera's arm to shoulder-drive into the Eraser, hoping to temporarily knock it back so they could escape.

Mara somehow spotted the hazy figures of Liera and Malk through the smoke, distinctly different than the larger, hairier Erasers. She kept a tight grasp of Coby's hand as she made her way to them. Somehow, she made it there without too much difficulty.

While Malk was busy with the Eraser, Liera somehow managed to open the lock. "It's open! Come on!" she coughed out, her eyes mow streamin tears, irritated from the thick clouds of smoke.

Malk gave the Eraser a final kick backwards and rushed out the door, the smoke clawing at his throat by now. He coughed a few times to clear it, then was fine, his gills filtering out most of the smoke beforehand.

Suddenly, Coby felt the smoothness of the door in the wall, and he didn't feel so blind anymore. His radar locked onto the setting, and at least he could see in front of him now, if not the sides or behind.

Mara fumbled slightly, but soon got the door open. Fresh air flooded in, and she inhaled gratefully. The oxygen purged her tainted lungs of the smoke, and she rushed outside, knwoing the others would follow.

Liera followed Mara outisde, a few stray sparks flying off her skin. She tried to shut down the electrical outputs, somewhat succeeding.

A burst of oxygen filled Coby's lungs, and his sonar exploded with color. With the smoke finally gone, it was resetting; adjusting to the outdoor surroundings. "Thank God." he breathed, taking in grateful gulps of air.

When everyone was outside, Malk slammed the door and was finally able to breathe. "We need to get out of here." he figured, trying to think of a foolproof plan.

They left their car, Mara said silently to Coby, gesturing with her tail. The car was still running, the keys in the engine.
