In other words, not seriously meant to be a musical so much as poking fun at the medium.

They can be tolerable, but still... why? i guess they think it appeals to young audiances. I can assure you that wasn't the case with me. When I finished watching b2 for the first and last time, I was 7. I remember my mom asked me how I liked it, assuming of course that I would have loved it like I did the first film. She was rather astonished when I answered: "it really wasn't amazing, the whole movie was a musical." I don't remember the next few lines of our exchange, but I know I mentioned: I do find Inuit and native American culture facinating, but I would prefer a documentary, not just worked into Balto." I immediatly went and watched Balto 1 again to be reminded of the quality movie that I was and am a fan of. That was eight years ago. Three years later, balto III was released, and my mom offered to buy it for me. I told her not to bother, on account of balto II. I did not see Balto III until four years later, and my suspicions were confirmed. I barely madde it through, even liberally applying the fast forward button. I will however give Balto III one thing, it traded the magic in Balto II for my one, intense, lifelong passion. Aviation. Overall, I hold Balto III slightly higher then Balto II, but it's been years since i've seen either. The only one I acctually watch is Balto I, which I last saw q few months back, and will see again soon. I think, actually, this "musical" thing (which I happen to hate as much as you guys) has only been a phenomenon since the 70s or 80s in cartoon movies (and, apparently, cartoon series on television as well). It's so stupid. And pointless. The great classic cartoon movies of the 30s, 40s, 50s and perhaps even the 60s had no such fluff in them, and they communicated with and reached children just fine. Ugh. Stupid cornball film industry people. Holy carp, we agree for once, JC? I do wish I did know what people were thinking when they have the characters randomly break into song, thinking kids will like it... They never had problems selling films before [obviously, to even make the sequels], so why change the style by sugar coating it and turning it into a musical?

Actually, though it has not stood out, we have had the same opinions on certain things in the past. You just seemed to focus on the negative stuff lately.

Actually I like it when people break into songs, well, well written songs. I don't think a musical fit Balto at all, now that would be different if they used singing in the ORIGNAL film, but they didn't. So its kinda random. x3

I think that sing-a-longs would really cheapen such a great story. My thoughts exactly. I didnt really expect it in Balto 2 when I saw it, but I expected it in Balto 3 and braced myself accordingly. It wasnt enough.

If you want to know why I am a Balto fan here's why:I was very lucky. I watched Balto: Wings of change in Cartoon Network when I was 5 (I didn't watch the first movie that time because, of course, I wasn't born until 3 years later. I tried to remember the movie after I watced it but soon I forgot what the titlewas and called Bingo: Winds of Change. But I soon emembered the correct title soon after. I forgot the movie completely a year later and when I was 9 I went to Neopets.com met a user when I was 11 an looked at one of her Neopets: a Lupe. She put a description but a dont remember it that much but I think it was this: "He doesn't look ike a pumpkin pie. He looks like BALTO" I was reminded of the movie and realized how LUCKY I was to be remided of Balto. I began chatting with her and she soon told me that there was a first and second movie. Iwatched the 3 movies talked about it with her. I liked the movies so much and I somehow found Balto Source in Facebook and now here I am and I am just 12

This is an interesting question. I never put much thought into why I've loved him for all these years. I just did. Obviously what first got me hooked was the movie. I must've been 5 when it came out. In my opinion, it's better than the Lion King. This movie got me very interested him and in sled dog racing. I was drawing this image of him and his team pulling a sled on every piece of paper I could find--and other drawable surfaces. I was making masking-tape-harnesses for these tiny rubber dog figurines I collected and dragging them around. I'm pretty sure I did something similar to my beanie babies as well (lol obsessed much?). It wasn't until I got older (maybe 12 and in middle school) when I started writing fanfics about him and becoming more interested in the actual history, and became aware of the fact that it was a relay and there were other notable dogs involved like Togo and whatnot. As a kid I was under the impression that every last detail of the movie was true, so I was pretty surprised to see how different the actual history was, but I was interested nonetheless. I've realized that there are a few main things that keep me interested in the story. First and foremost, it really happened. I have a fondness for true stories, and stories that have heart, inspiration, and courage. It's a reminder that there is still some good in the world when it really matters. Another thing is my complete love for animals that I must have been born with. It only makes the story even more appealing to me. And as I mentioned on another post, I can relate to Balto in the sense that he really proved himself when no one really believed in him. I think it's just incredible that these animals were able to accomplish what they did when all other methods failed. It's an amazing story overall.

I was from the very beginning and still am, an avid discovery network viewer. I don't remember how I was introduced to the true story, either from discovery or from Paulson's memoir Winterdance but I do know I was familiar with the true story before seeing the movie. It gave me a differant prespective on it. I saw it not as history but heavily embeleshed and romanticized historical fiction, which is more or less what it was. Balto 1 came out the same year I was born, 1995. I saw it somewhere in 2000 I belive. I loved it as fiction but never thought of it as a historical account. Somewhere in sixth grade I considered writting a lengthy fanfic, but didn't acctually get around to it until this year, my freshman year in high school. I haven't finished it yet but you can see what I have in the fanfic section.

I loved Balto since the first time I saw it. And watched it over and over and over again.
Than my love kept growing, not only towards Balto, but alot to Alaska. I just loved the look of it in the movie, and later in the pictures I saw on internet. I'm still dreaming of going to Alaska to go dogsledding.
