As street said, people do put 'real' effort in to there renders. Look at this one for example: http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/view_fanimage/Lone/90.html&numart=6844street dog wrote: Quote: You could draw the character from scratch. I really could have stated that a lot better. What I'm saying to say is that more people should put that kind of effort into their renders. Good renders do take effort, but I think that making the character from scratch would make it even more unique. If someone needed a certain character they wouldn't have to use one from another movie to help create it. I would think that renders would be a last resort instead of the first thing someone would do to create a character.

But more so on this subject, renders is in a way stealing, so if Steet wants you stealing, he wants you stealing from the source your on? xD (Someone randomly YIM'd me that, I thought I'd share)

I see your point, but I don't think people who make renders use them to make the characters, I think they make them to protray(sp?) certain events in a characters life. I know I don't anyway. I usually sketch up my characters in real life first before puting them on the computer. So personally, I'm trying to draw my characters my self now, and only submiting fan images on my image gallery (which I have started on my ADGTH image gallery.)

I too wish people would put more effort into their renders. And yes, it might be more unique if you draw it, but that's not what the image section is for xD If he wanted us to just draw our characters all the time, then he'd allow for us to use movie backgrounds in the fan art secton.

Example: A bunch of renders got deactivated because they used characters from different movies. I PMed the head image mod and they said it was allowed, send them again and they'll be activated. So I did. Deactivated again. I just deleted them to save myself more frustration. Even with a strict set of rules, things can still be interpreted differently by mods. The only way would be to allow it all or have nothing.

"You cannot use images from other movies" shouldn't be hard to understand. At all. And for a while that's how things worked. But either some of the mods don't care anymore or the new ones don't take time to learn the rules they are supposed to follow. And it doesn't help that Steet all but refuses to pay attention to any of these situations to settle things.

I'm probally gonna get bashed for this, But from Steet himself : Images from other movies on that source, AREN'T allowed. Now I'm not sure if Steet's not telling all the sources this, or if the admins do not follow threw on the updates. Because I had to learn from the French admin of TLKS about this rule, and some of the English (I know SS allowed them, not sure if they do now) does not know, or does not care. In my opinion, renders should just be banned. Its too much work over it, and "Stolen" renders, were "Stolen" in the first place. (I know dA bans graphics *Unless credited and has premission to use* bans these because of Copyright, Sorry if I'm getting off topic, but I like sharing my views xDD) Tibbeh wrote: Not completely. Well said, like I stated before, at the time, TLKS english side didn't even know about this, until Grey Wolf told me. Maybe steet needs to send a staff mass PM, or add a mod shared box to help. (We have a mod shared forum, but I don't think we can see comments from other sources!) And there is.. A wonderful system called the report system, you see, the mods look at the reports, and notifies them of a problem, and its required for them to close the reports.

(I know dA bans graphics *Unless credited and has premission to use* bans these because of Copyright, Sorry if I'm getting off topic, but I like sharing my views xDD) If you thought the sparkledog issue was a massive bawsplosion, ban renders and watch the site servers have a Chernobyl level meltdown from all the whining. I personally wouldn't lose any sleep over it (and I kinda support banning renders.) I did purge every render in my gallery because it's just basically tracing/art theft. I'm going to get reamed over this, but there's really... no talent or soul involved in rendering. It takes up to 2 hours for me at least for a good piece of art (planning, sketching, composition, lining, coloring, shading, background painting, etc,) and 10, 15 minutes for a render. A render tells nothing about the artist, it's just Balto in red. Seen one, seen 'em all. A from scratch piece really reflects on the artist and shows how much love and care they put into their craft. Now I feel like a dolt for complaining about "render theft" in the past. tl;dr: Yo dawg, I heard you like art theft in your art theft. So I put recoloring in your recoloring so you can steal while you steal!

To be honest I don't see how tracing takes any effort...
