Sparkle dogs ,taste the rainbow.

I agree. Besides, if you're old enough to join a site like this in the first place and you still have to make sparklewolves to be 'creative', you have problems. If Steet likes sparklewolves so much he should just make a Source for them. xD

Lol let us not tarnish the reputation of Skittles. They are godly. Well, almost godly. If you take out the yellow ones, and maybe the green ones, they would be godly. Mixed berry Skittles are on a whole different level of godliness.

But more seriously, I have to say I am in the camp of people who think sparkledogs are basically anti-creativity. It doesn't affect me that much but I will stand up for the art community. Well, the art community that puts more into their work than choosing a color and then splashing it on with the fill button.

Edit: 75+% no to sparkledogs? That's like the same percentage of Skittles in the bag that are the flavors you hate.

^ That.

You do NOT need the entire colour wheel to create a character.
In fact it's EASY to create a character with natural, matching colours.
Pick ONE colour and simply darken and lighten it - HUZZAH! You have several shades of colour to use to create your character! There's even online colour wheels that do it for you!

Members claim that, by not allowing Sparkle dogs, we moderators are "stifling their creativity." But I beg to differ.

Creativity, to me, is using what's available to make a creative, unique design without making it some ridiculous color or putting jewelry on their animals. Creativity is being realistic without being a conformist.

When I look at a sparkle dog I'm not overwhelmed with the creator's statement of 'self expression' and so-called "creativity." As a matter of fact, it's the complete opposite. Instead of being like, "oh, cool," I look at the picture: disregard. I don't take them seriously because this "creativity" is run-of the mill and boring. While I mad my fair share of sparkles in the past, I have none now. Why? Because I realize that there can be creative designs and color combinations with a natural, eye-pleasing setting. The only "sparkle" I still have would be my 'fursona,' whom I don't even use often except for expressive "vent" art.

For example -- on Spirit Source, UK and I created two variations to the "run of the mill" designs that influxed the site. A splash Sabino and a Brindle on Grullo. This certainly beats overusing the blacks, buckskins, and palominos!

If you don't put effort into your character -- and not just the biography -- it's hard for people to like the character.

I don't understand. On this site you can upload 90% original characters and 10% movie characters, and we've all seen people who even complain about that amount as if it's too high.

But just now with this new sparkledog debate, many people want to suddenly act as if the movies are what's important about the fanart section of this site... when the majority of what I see uploaded every day has nothing to do with Balto. (a recoloring of Balto with a movie background doesn't really count!) Whether or not these dogs are brown or purple I don't care, I wish there was more movie fanart than original character fanart here.

I think if you are really upset about sparkledogs and think they don't belong at Balto Source, the best way to show your support is to make sure at least 50% of your galleries are dedicated to pure Balto art. Then Balto will be just /half/ as important as original characters!

People say they don't want this source to lose its original purpose but Balto has long been marginalized here. I think a fight over what colors should be allowed to make sure your dog stays Balto-related is kind of baffling. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending sparkledogs - I just think they're no worse than whatever the current rules allow.

90%-10% - SERIOUSLY. Can we stop pretending Balto is the most important thing about Balto Source? :( I wish it wasn't that way but it is.

I concur with you, Cactus. But it isn't just Balto Source -- I've been fending off Sparkle horses on Spirit Source (including a green and black colt)! Members focus a lot on the characters, but not enough.

If the character isn't mal-developed with a good design, it's well developed with a poor design. I've seen a lot of "CHECK OUT MY AWESOME STALLION HE'S BLACK WITH STOCKINGS AND A BLAZE. WAIT U COPIED MY IDEA BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SIMILAR HORSE. /raeg" (Most of this happens on BS with black/white wolves. ROFL)

If members want to complain about the "creativity 'restrictions'" that we, the staff, 'provide,' the least they could do is actually be a little bit creative. Granted there are creative characters on the site, many of them are not. If they're not solid in color, they're strikingly similar to Balto, Jenna, or one of the other movie characters. Or in a lot of cases, similar to other members' characters.

There always has to be something to complain about, that's for sure.

So why the topic? Everyone should know Hécate and her characters, mostly her fursona. So this fursona got deactivated because it is a sparkledog. What? Do you think THAT a sparkledog? http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/view_fanimage/MJW_We_are_together_in_this../104.html&numart=13956&display=30 I don´t think so.

A matter of opinion, but um. She's a friggen vampire wolf.

But like steet said at the news, this site was made to have fun, not to fight. So why don´t stop people fighting over that? Steet said he´ll make up a filtre so who doesn´t want to see "sparkledogs" can use that. Problem solved. I hope people will understand that.

Yea, and then we'll have to deal with the people who make a black wolf with bright purple tattoos and have them claim its not a sparkledog.

tibb_wolf wrote:
Considering Hécate's character is a "vampire" wolf it doesn't belong here. They do NOT fit in the Balto universe and the whole idea of a "vampire" wolf is pretty absurd if you ask me.

Again, she's a friggen vampire wolf.

I was really dissapointed when I heard Steet allowed sparkle dogs now...I'm going to keep my opinion short and simple though :

I think that allowing sparkle dogs now, is a mockery (oh yes...I said that word. Mockery.) to all the films, The Lion King, Balto, and all those other sources. (The only source I could understand for is Toy Story Source) It just disgusts me, I don't know why, it just does.

Since sparkles are allowed, things like this are OK(I got cat's OK to use this as a example) Seriously? xDD

Edit 11/24/10: LOL it got quiet on here. xDDD

I think a "mockery" is too nice a word. Its an EMBARRASSMENT. Whatever dA gets made fun of for, well, we just hopped their band wagon. YAY CONFORMITY!

And need I say again?

Quote:
I keep seeing people complain that there's unrealistically-colored dogs in Balto. Now, Jenna's a bright red, we know. Dixie's white and grey-periwinkle, Ralph is blue-grey, and even Dusty is a purple-grey color. There was even a blue dog seen amongst the sled dogs xD

Now if someone sends in a character that's like any of those colors and a mod doesn't accept it cuz its unrealistically-colored, that's kinda dumb. But if someone sends in a character that's got like weird blue/green/red tattoos on them, or if they're a bright pink or purple or green, that's a good reason to not accept it for the colors. Those are a couple of the many traits of sparkledogs xD

People are also saying accessories are a problem. Well, what's the problem? THEY HAVE A FANCY PENDANT THAT THEIR OWNER GAVE THEM. Uhhh, okay? What's with the leg-warmers? IT'S MY FURSONA AND I WEAR THOSE. Ugh.... first off, I'm personally against fursonas on this website xD Second off, Nome in the 1920's didn't have brightly-colored articles of clothing, alright? So your black and white striped cut-covers will have to stay on Furaffinity, alright?

Jenna had a bandanna, Dixie had a fancy collar, and Steele had a cool collar as well.

Did you see any dogs walking around with a heart necklace? MY CHARACTER'S AN EXCEPTION, HER MOTHER GAVE IT TO HER. Yea, whatever. Get in a big ol' tiff about it. I'm sure that necklace is what's saving your character from being a Mary Sue.

Did you see any dogs wearing bracelets? WELL, TOBOE IN WOLF'S RAIN WORE BRACELETS! Yea?? Make a Wolf's Rain Source and put your character on there.

Did you see any dogs wearing t-shirts and hats? ITCHY IN ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN WORE CLOTHES! Then maybe your character belongs in 1920's NEW ORLEANS, in a universe where dogs have opposable thumbs, play cards, and sing songs with big-lipped alligators!

Did you see any vampires/werewolves/genetic mutations/cross-species/etc running around Nome? WELL, WHAT ABOUT ANIU!? WHAT ABOUT SPIRIT GUIDES!? WHAT ABOUT THE SUPERNATURAL AND UNKNOWN THAT HAPPENED IN ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN THAT PROVES THERE'S AN AFTERLIFE OR THE EXISTENCE OF ANGELS AND DEMONS AND OTHER KINDS OF MYTHICAL CREATURES!?

R-Really? This is Balto, not friggen Van Helsing. Do I have to REMIND you of what you're dealing with?

Fine, whatever, have your MILLION wolf spirit guides running around the place. You're not fixing the problem of "uncreativity" that you're unnecessarily complaining about, I'll tell you that. The mods let that slide? There's gonna be a slew of wolf spirits running around Balto Source. Not that THAT matters, seeing as there's more clones of my OWN characters running around, than clones of Balto himself.

But hey, if THAT'S your problem. Go ahead, have your wolf spirits. But its an INUIT thing, kay? They don't HAVE vampires or werewolves or wolves that can transmogrify into something spiky. If you want something like what you're wanting, make a Quest for Camelot Source or an UP Source or whatever.

All of the dogs in the MOVIE Balto had their fair share of originality. If you keep having to recycle designs, that's your problem. There's other websites you can go to to show off your so-called "unique" character that Balto Source is "wrongfully suppressing". Leave the BALTO fan character section for the BALTO characters. For the characters that actually could pass in this universe.

BUT CAAAAT, YOU HAVE CHARACTERS THAT DON'T LIVE IN NOME! YOU HAVE CHARACTERS THAT LIVE IN AFRICA, WHY AREN'T THEY ON LION KING SOURCE, HMMMMMMMMMMM!?!?!?!?

Don't be stupid, everyone in the universe knows how my characters, even if they're on friggen MARS, are linked to BALTO and not SIMBA.

Look at everyone else's characters, and then look at yours. Why are they unacceptable? If its cuz they have the power of flight, then get rid of that trait. If they're unoriginal BECAUSE of that trait, then its not an original character, and you are NOT being creative.

Be creative with the restrictions you're given. It's an obstacle all creators have to face.

I think you guys are taking this way too seriously.

As much as I love natural colours as much as the next person, I honestly have no idea what's so bad about sparkledogs. I really don't. Of course I mean the ones that aren't overly-done and impossible to re-draw, those are just horrid.

But I don't really see how sparkledogs fit with the whole 'Balto' theme... but meh. I don't really care. xD And I don't understand why you guys care so much. Is it really going to effect your daily Balto Source lives so horribly and strongly?

I think the core concern is that the sparkledogs will eventually grow to represent a huge amount of the art on this site - to a point that artists' original creations will be lost in a sea of rainbow.

And I am sympathetic to this worry.

I agree with you, it's not like the entire site will go to hell just because sparkledogs are allowed. If people really don't want to waste time with them then they don't have to. I should hope that in the grand scheme of things it won't matter if someone's art gets a couple less hits than it would have because of the extra art on the site.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think anyone can say they are creative if they can't make something out of what is available.

To back this up, look at these characters:
http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/chars/Audrey_WS/17335.html
http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/chars/Jacqueline/16196.html
http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/chars/Shilah/15732.html
(There are many more, too many to post infact xD)

But do they need every single colour under the sun? No! These characters are just an example of true creativity because these people have been able to work with what is available and make something great out of it despite the restrictions.
