Hmm, I like this idea the best. Of cource means more work for the image mods, but, I think its worth it.

I think that's the best idea, I have more renders than graphics but if I have to do some, I'm happy to make up some good ones. I know that many people just write a text with MSPaint on a Balto screenie and claim it as a graphic but images like that are usually deactivated as "Too badly written/made" since just tipying a word isn't enough to make a graphic, people usually do it because in their sea of coloured blank renders, it's needed something with a Balto character so they do this...or they colour another blank render and says that it's a balto chars, when it's clear that a blue doggie with Balto's markings can't be claimed as Balto...

Another thing is that in the backgrounds of renders where there are official characters, people add those into the image. It's not fair on the rest of us, really :/ Well, if the Balto character in the bg is involved with the render (like the rendered char is a Balto's son and there is Balto is the bg, not rendered, but in a position that looks like he's talking to the rendered one) I think it's fine to add it with the fan char but if it's just used to incrase his rating, well, I agree with you then, Sardy.

I render Balto characters when I have to make the base image bigger and if I kept it that way it would be a blurry mess, I do a render of the character to keep it sharp. Example of what I mean.

Sora-Kun wrote: That would be fine because you added to it, it wasn't just the render of the same character. For instance rendering over a screenshot of Balto and keeping it as Balto wouldn't be allowed plain.

Before I say anything else, Question: No, renders are NOT allowed on DA. I learned this very painfully (mentally, not physically obviously) as about 100 people (NO exagerrations) invaded my gallery to scream at me for posting my edited images which were someone's art (Universal's, Disney's, etc.)
So no, they're not. I learned that the hard way and will stand for it now to let others know so they don't get invaded by 100+ people who have nothing better to do than argue.

More on topic:
About the renders? I don't mind renders. I think they provide a useful outlet for those who aren't that great at drawing and can't seem to be improving. Face it, not everyone is going to be good at drawing. So, for those who aren't, rendering is a decent way to get their characters up in fan images. So long as they don't say the whole image is theirs, just the character and render, then I think we're fine with that.
The number of renders, though is a different story. I recently visited tibb_wolf's image gallery and was a bit inspired to go and do almost the same thing in mine. Now, whenever I do renders is once every who knows how long and if people request them. Otherwise, it's nothing but images.
Now, I won't say I hate blank renders or that I love them, once again I'm kinda neutral. For those who put up blank renders, awesome for you. It doesn't really bother me that much unless you have basically zero Balto images and the rest is blank renders, then I'd get a bit annoyed because it would seem you don't really care about the fan site at hand, but more about providing blank renders. What annoys me the most, though, is that new users usually do nothing but color blank renders. I've seen a few galleries that have renders and in the information is says nothing but 'blank render (c) someone' and so on and so forth. I'm getting kinda sick of it.
That ratio thing isn't a bad idea, either. I think for every 4 Balto images there should be a render (like Question said). And for those that color renders, there should be something there also.
And as for Mighty removing all the image galleries with renders, no offense, but does that even seem fair? What if they only do the renders as requests and not for their own benefit? I think a filter would also be in everyone's best interest. That way people can just filter them out. Therefore, this controversy would pretty much dissapear. Filters or ratios would be a good idea, in my opinion, but it's steet's side so basically what he says goes.
And with all these arguments on blank renders and... 's' dogs I'm sure he's probably sick and tired of hearing us fight... All we can do is hope for the best.

So long as they don't say the whole image is theirs, just the character and render, then I think we're fine with that. Renders = Tracing Tracing = crutch to avoid drawing Avoiding drawing = not getting better. Rendering, quite frankly, requires zero talent to do. You're just tracing a picture, it's not rocket science. There's no planning, no composition, no sketching, just copy and paste a screenshot and trace. By using rendering to avoid drawing and saying "WELL I'M NOT GETTING BETTER AT DRAWING" no duh you're not getting better at drawing. If you're not drawing, you're not getting better. Obvious logic is obvious. I'd say that rendering has totally crippled AS's artists. More and more people are rendering instead of drawing and it's a lazy shortcut and leading to more and more people just knocking off Balto style instead of developing their own unique style. Rendering destroyed my artistic progress, and I'm seeing more and more artists stagnate because of rendering. And if you're using tracing to avoid drawing, then you're lazy. No excuses, you're just plain lazy.
