Baltoluv: My point is that his voice isn't well suited for a ballad as much as it is with someone like Steve Winwood. His voice fit well, and besides, it's done. You can't change anything now.

And for the record, I like Breaking Benjamin, thank you very much. :P

I was wondering something, why did they use someone washed up like Steve Winwood. There were many better people out then, like Eddie Vader or Dave Mustane. What do you guys think? I guess they could put in much worse voices like Michael Jackson or Celine Dion.

Image Oh dear, Eddie Vader? Dave Mustane? Much worse voices like the King of Pop or Celine Dion?

Steve Winwood did a very good job I thought, I liked it.

I honestly belive that a better choice could not have been made. 70's soft ballads happens to fit well there. There might be a few other artists of Steve's style who could have done it, but that would involve some reasarch, for a more or less irrelivant topic. Now, if I had to go with someone as of the 2000's, I would probably give the job to Alexi Murdoch. The mood would have been completely differant, perhaps even warenting a completely differant song, but I think his style could have been applied to Balto.

As for instrumental music, that I could take down a few paths. I could see giving the job to Kelly Baily, though again, there would probably be a differance in mood, but it would still fit, just in a differant way. (the song that comes to mind is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy61r3Qk ... re=related) for cinemetic effect anyway, like during credits, though probably not best for background music.

For the sake of coherance to the existing mood, perhaps Michael Salvatori. His range of styling is pretty wide. The white wolf scene could easily have used his "Never Forget" without loosing too much (now I feel like I should make a vid combining the two). However, his usually, only parts of his music are preticulary applicable, but if the task were up to him he could do it.

However, frankly, I think they made the right choices with Steve Winwood and James Horner.

I really love the song just as it is. I think the vocals sound beautiful and they fit the movie. Wonderfully. Besides, this movie came out in 1995.

And the names you did list - I have no clue who any of them are.

Actually if they had - for some awful reason - used jackson for the vocals of this song, I would have refused to even watch Balto. That filthy man had no talent in my eyes. Celine Dion at least I could imagine singing "Reach for the Light" and not killing it.

Lawl. That.

I thought Steve's slightly rough sounding voice worked perfectly for the theme of the movie.

Still I dont find their voices uplifting, I found Steves to be too 80s like.

Baltoluv, your actually not listing "up-to-date" artists.
All the artists your listing as "should've used" are heavy metal singers.
All the artists your listing as "could've been worse" are actually some of the most TOP-selling artists in the world today.

Now I admire your creativity, and there"s NOTHING wrong with listening to heavy metal, but not everybody likes that kind of thing. Besides that, the producers wanted the song to fit the mood of the movie, and they had to pick a suitable voice for the song. I mean, no offense, but just picture Mustane singing "reach for the light". You may think it sounds good, I don't know, but I personally would prefer Winwood to sing instead. And yes, I've heard Mustane's singing, I don't think he has a suitable voice for the song.

THIS. I agree with MHP.

You love metal and hate everything else, we get it. Not everyone else does though. Expand your tastes some if you can. Or at least leave an open mind.

I don't know what song you're listening to, then. You may be a metal person, but the fact is a metal song would have sounded horrible in this movie. I've no clue how anyone would be able to say this song doesn't sound uplifting - EXPECIALLY at about 3:48 when the children really join in. Even the music itself without the vocals you can tell is supposed to be uplifting.

It does! xD It gives the song more 'character' for lack of a better word. Even when I was 5 (when the movie came out) I was able to appreciate this song for how beautiful it sounded. Gawd, I remember putting in the movie and fast-forwarding it to the end credit JUST to listen to this song.

I agree, the style was perfect, but I could have done without the children coming in. For me, that killed the song, which otherwise sounded like a 70's ballad. I loved every other aspect of the song. Some people liked the addition of the children, I didn't, but eh.

It would have made no sense to use what was current. Quality and style fit to the movie should be held over how "cool", "hip", or "current" something is. Reach for the Light fit very well. Even if I had all the money in the world to throw around for an artist, I would still stick to that genre.

Oh children come in...I didnt listen up to that part, I usually eject the disc by then.

Evanescence or Avril Lavigne would be great picks if they were out at that time.

1 - You don't even listen to the whole song before decing you don't like it? Well, guess I shouldn't be suprised.

2 - ROFLWAT? No... just no. I like Evanescence and Avril Lavigne, but.... no. Amy has a beautiful voice, but there's no way in a million years I can even begin to imagine her singing that song.

Reach for the Light was done amazingly already, and there is a reason there wasn't any well known remixes; because it was good enough already.

(Though I think it'd be pretty if Amy Lee did it, but I think the orignal would be the best)
