Um, I donno what to say that anyone else has said. xD But ; Its a kids movie. Not a teen/complex movie. I thought the way they did it was simple and very easy to follow. But apparently I was wrong. xDD

Not to mention, giving him a new body was just way easier than repairing an old one that was probably down to nothing but calcification on the bed rock. It also makes a little more sense to give him a new body because it's like a "get a whole new life" pass - the body hasn't aged as much, so less wear and tear, which will allow him to live a bit longer.
