Hera was torn. After being out of her cage, watching the rest of the mutants look out to the world yearningly made her heart break. But she knew that there was no chance for them. It was either her, or no one at all.
She took off at a mad sprint, keeping her eye on Shay. If nothing else would come out of it, she would make sure Shay made it out of this alive. Even if it meant death for herself.
"So, what's the plan?" she asked. The sinking pit in her stomach told her there was none.

Max hesitated, appearing to think. "Run," she sai dfinaly. "Follow one of us, we'll make sure you get out of here." Her voice was determined, full of courage. It was contagious, and Shay began to believe that they would get out, despite the voices now shouting behind them. She didn't dare look behind her, and with her heart in her mouth, she kept on running.

Hera wasn't fooled, but put on a show for Shay's sake.
"Good think I'm a fast runner," she murmured, being sure to not pass Max or get in her way.

They made it through the door, the tall, pale one, Iggy, slamming it shut. "Fly! Go!" Max instructed, spreading out her own wings. With a nod, Shay's tawny winsg extended, and she flapped, running a bit, and then, flying.
It was hard flying, atleast until she had gotten the kinks worked out of her muscles.

Hera felt as if she was exploding out of her skin. Her caramel wings unfurling, she felt herself flying, the sweet yet painful relief of taking to the air after so long.
"Where to?" she called, feeling as if her voice was being swallowed by the wind.

Max didn't answer, not having heard her. "I don't know," Shay murmured, the same question in her mind. Nudge looked back at them, and shrugged, which looked strange since she was flying. "Somewhere's in New York." Shay had known that they were in New York, so the information wasn't all that useful.

They soon reached a subway station, and were forced to pull in their wings. Shay did so a little releculantly. SHe was still afraid of being caught again, and wanted a quick escape.

Shay followed the Flock out of the subway tunnel. She blinked as she saw all the people, and stood there frozen, awe and amazement clear in her jade eyes. She breathed in deeply, the New York air smelling of freedom. A grin broke over her face, stretching from ear to ear.

The relief Hera felt was almost painful, and washed over her in glorious waves. She kept her face neutral, trying to look ordinary and slightly sullen, as most teenagers often are.

Shay hurried to catch up with the bird kids. It was nice having others like her, outside the Insitute, she realized. It was made better that they had freed her and Hera. Shay soon found herself standing in what looked like a park, large branches overhead. "Are we sleeping here?" Shay asked, cocking her head. "Yep!" Max said, climbing up quickly. With a shrug, Shay followed.
