Kristen stopped everything she was doing when she heard the wolves' voices.
Jett stopped right in the middle of his lunge, falling to the floor. "WOAH! How did we... or... you do that?? That's so awesome!" he said, forgetting the fight.
Kristen looked at John, then back at the wolves. "Did we just talk to those wolves? And did they just talk to us? Tell me I'm not imagining this!" she said.

Jett's tail was wagging a mile a minute, and he found it tough to sit still, but he listened to the human's command. He sat down, his tail still wagging. "Me too!" he said excitedly.

Kristen nodded. "That's just a small summary. If you two want to hear the full thing, this is what happened," she paused. "Ever since we were little, our parents told us stories about The Gift of the Wild. It's supposed to empower a human with the ability to talk to any and all animals. Our parents led us to believe we would some day have the gift too, but of course, we grew out of ever believing the thought. Soon enough, we forgot about it completely. It's not until now that we have finally remembered it again. And John, you're right. Didn't Mom and Dad say something about not abusing it? Whatever that means..."
Jett jumped up immediatley. "That's so cool! Can you tell us what humans do? I'm so curious!" he began to jump up and down excitedly. "Please, please, I wanna know everything!"
Kristen laughed. "Wow, you're fisty aren't you?"

"Abusing it? Hmm.. I think it was talking to too many different animals. Then you get confused and can't tell between humans." John said.

John had an itch on his neck, he got his foot and scratched it, just like how a wolf or dog would scratch it, without even noticing he scratched it that way.

Jett nodded towards James, but tilted his head in confusion at the human's behavior. He hadn't really studied humans, but he somehow knew this wasn't right. He shook it off and led the way into the pack territory.
Kristen too found the behavior odd, but soon enough she found herself doing something similar. She got an itch on her head, but scratched it with her hand. Except, she flicked at it as if to shoo something away while scratching it.

James also found this odd. He wanted to say something about it, but had nothing to say.
They walked toward the pack.
"Hide here for a while while Jett I tell them you are friends instead of enemies so they will not attack you." James said.

Jett followed James. Once he finished explaining to the rest of the pack that there are humans coming, he looked up to see the alpha walking their way.
"Are you sure this is safe?" the alpha asked.
Jett nodded. "Yes sir. They can understand us! And somehow, we can understand them!"
