Tally snorted. "That's why you are called gullible Tuck," she pointed out. "No offense." she added again.
"I heard it from DAkota, who heard it from Trix, who heard it from Ryan!" Kali protested. "It can't be a hoax!"

"Ranger shook his head in protest. "It doesn't matter! If it was stolen, it isn't our concern. Let's just drop the subject, okay?" He then turned to Kali. "Kali, you know where Dakota is at the moment? I gotta settle a bet I had going him."

Kali thought for a moment. "I think he was at the coast line or something, somewhere with water," she said slowly.

Ranger thought for a moment. "Well, that would be Barabou Lake, right near the hot springs. What the heck would he be doing up there?" Tucker cut in. "Maybe he found Mika and the balloon." Ranger glared at him. "Don't say another word about that balloon or you won't have any tail left. Got it?" Tucker let out a small shriek and ran behind Tally for protection. "You can't make me do anything Ranger....I'll stop though"

Tally stepped to the side, so Tucker was unprotected. "Whatever," she said, adding an eye roll. "Should we go talk to him?" she asked, looking at Ranger with expecting brown eyes.

"I think so," Ranger replied. "Dakota and I made a bet and he lost, so I need to collect whats mine. That's probably why he's hiding by the lake." Ranger turned and started walking up the road that lead up the mountain, gesturing for everyone to follow. "C'mon. We may need some other bodies to help encourage him to give me my 4 bones."

Kali followed eagerly, practically bouncing as she walked after Ranger.
Tally followed Ranger and Kali, walking side by said with the black and white border collie, Kali slightly behind.

About 30 minutes had past since they started walking, and the 4 dogs were now walking on the side of the road skirting the large mountain lake. The entire lake was created by a large dam, which opened up the entire valley below for the town. Usually, on a cool sunny day like the one that day, the area was crisp and clear. However, today there was a heavy mist lingering across the whole forest on one side of the lake, and a strange smell was lingering in the air. Ranger took a big whiff and almost gagged. "Ugh! Do you smell that? Smells like the time Ms. Berry left that carton of eggs out in the sun too long and they went bad."

Kali nodded, to full of happiness like usual to really notice or pay attention.
Tally gagged. "WHat is that?" she gasped out.

Ranger sniffed again. "Well, I can't be too sure, but it smells a lot like sulfur to me." "Sulfur? Are you sure?" Tucker asked quizzically. Ranger nodded. "Yes, definitely sulfur, but what I don't get is that there is also another smell. It's very faint, but it almost smells like a dead animal." Tucker suddenly froze and pointed up the road, just around a curve. "Does anyone else see flashing lights up there?" Ranger gasped. "My god, there must be at least 5 police cars up there. What do you think is going on!?"

Kali ran up, eager like always. "Uh...you guys should see this," she said, freezing.
Tally ran after Kali, her eyes wide. She looekd at the scene, her eyes growing wider, adrenaline coursing through her. "What the crap?!" she exclaimed.

Ranger had to put a paw to his muzzle to prevent himself from throwing up. beside the road, opposite of the lake, about 15 from them was a greenish-brown pool of water vigorously bubbling, pouring out noxious steam. However, it was what was next to the pool that made Ranger lose it. Half in, and half out of the water, the burned and bloody remains of a human was lying there, boiling in the heated water.
Ranger looked down the road again, seeing the 5 police cars and coroner parked by the side of the road near the parking lot for the hot springs park. Without thinking, he started barking as loud as he could, trying to get their attention.
Tucker was dumbfounded. "You guys...that's Mika...I mean....yeah, I think that's him..." He paused a moment, then looked at Ranger. "Ranger, man...what are you doing."
Ranger stopped barking for a moment to answer Tucker's question. "Something else is going on over there. The police don't know about this. I'm trying to get them to come over here."

"What else is going on?" Tally asked, slightly confused, trying not to vomit. She trned her horrified gaze away from the mangled corpse, turning them instead to Ranger.
Kali started barking, doing anything tha anyone else was doing.

Ranger kept barking as several of the police officers started running towards them. After they were about halfway to them, he stopped. "I don't like to looks of this at all. There's mist down there, too. I wonder if more people were hurt." The police officers arrived by them. One bent over slightly to look at them. "What the heck are four dogs doing up here?" "Maybe they are the pets of those two dead tourists," the other one replied. "Probably. Poor saps. Yuck, you can still smell them from way down here." Ranger barked again, then pointed with his nose to the decaying body strewn in the woods. Both police officers were dumbfounded for a moment, then one hurriedly took out his radio. "There is a third body. Repeat, there is a third body about 300 feet south of the hot springs parking lot." The other police man bent down on his knees and looked at Ranger. "Thank you for showing us this. I'm not sure if you know whats going on here, but three people have been found dead. Run along now before you end up falling in to one of these death traps. Go on." Ranger was almost at a loss for words. "Thr...Three humans...d...dead? What on earth is going on here!?"

Kali keeled over, fainting from shock.
Tally was equally horrified, but had better control over herself. "Maybe-" she said. "Maybe it's the end of the world." Silence followed her sentence, fully sinking in.
