Ok, not gonna even try to go with the flow of conversation. I know this may or may not have been established yet, but I throw catuion to the wind to expresss my mind:
As a lover of cats(Having lost my darling cat Elizabeth-a beautiful old maincoon-almost 5 years ago, I understand the subtle bond that a cat and a human can have. Unrelated if not cute story, Elizabeth had been around longer than me, and when I came to live with my Great aunt as an infant, they put a net over my crib to prevent the cat from climbing in and smothering me. one day, my aunt Rita saw Elizabeth staring at my crib while i sleeping, and so, she undid the net(much to the dismay of the others in the house). Elizabeth climbed in, sniffed me a bit, and then curled up at my feet. From what I've been told, she would look up and check me over if I moved, to make sure I was okay. She did that for ten years straight.
I know the love a cat can have and give.
Now that I've bored you all with my life story XD, the comment about people thinking cats are aloof and independent- they're right. cats are far more independent than dogs are because cats have not been around for as long as dogs. Cats are still inheritly wild to an extent. They don't need supervision most of the time, and don't mind being alone. Because of the breeds of cats, this is all very general, because some cat breeds are more dependent than others.
But again, i know that cats are affectionate too, but I'm too much of a big mouth to not throw my two-cents in XD.
Best Wishes, KG

My two cats are very sweet and loving, In May our oldest cat at this time Peaches (Peaches and Cream was her full name My dad thought it would be a cute name lol) had be put down when we found her breathing hard on the floor and she could not get up, our younger cat at the time Goldy (Golden Roses, my brother's idea) lay beside her. She knew that Peaches who was like an mother to her since she was a kitten was dieing. We took Peaches to the vet where they told us she had advanced arthritus. Goldy after, who had always seemed to know when we were sad or sick, imediatly took on the job of cheering us all up, waiting for us to walk into the house, cuddling with us, even allowing my younger brother to hold her, which she never normally liked at all. About three months ago we decided that the house seemed empty with only Goldy with us and so we looked on petfinder to find the perfect new addition to the family, at first we found nothing for of course my brother wanted an orange cat like a past cat we had called Ninja, and so we finally found a little kitten named Gilligan and we drove for five hours up into New Ulm to get him, he became our little baby and he loves to play and cuddle sometimes, until he farts when he gets a little "too" comfortable. Hope I didn't bore you guys with this, and I swear I started to cry when I typed about peaches. Gilligan is getting, what is it again.... well his man hood taken away today since Goldy was never really fixed.... Yeah thats all for now.

Heh. I read today in a book that "kneading" is another thing cats affectianatly do. That's when they gently claw/press down with their front feet, one at a time. Kittens do this when they still suckle milk from their mother(I think the get the milk out), andsometimes it follows them into adult hood.
Our female cat does the to me whenever she is in my lap, on my back or stomach, and to almot everyone else. Like Angel Dreamer said with her cat, I guess I'm my cat's kitten too. My male cat doesnt "knead" me, because I really never hold him, he likes to spray things alot.
And purring, most everyone knows the happy side of it, but some cats purr when they are ill or feel threatened. I found that interesting :3 Both of my cats purr, and for the happy reason.
