Intresting idea Jersey. I have some.

Ultraman Cosmos: While not a human, this Ultraman was one of the more intresting incarnations. Most don't know Ultraman so here's the run down. Ultraman was created in the golden age of Japanese monster films. Tsuburaya Productions, funded by Eiji Tsuburaya, known as the Father of Japanese Special effects and one of the creators of Godzilla, created the original Ultraman. Ultraman is a superhero from outerspace that hosts with a human to stay on Earth, allowing them to switch places with him if the need arises so he can protect the Earth from giant monsters and aliens. Ultraman normally stands about 200 feet tall. Anyway, Ultraman Cosmos was made for the 35th anniversary of the original. What makes him memorable and zany is that unlike the others, he tried to spare the monster he was fighting whenever possible, instead of destroying them outright as most Ultramen often did, as by nature Cosmos was a kind and peaceful being. This results in his 'fights' often being more comical, for example tieing a monster up with its own tail to keep it under control. Though naturally there were more serious episodes were Cosmos had no choice but to kill his opponent and occasionally he'd be wounded and bleed light. Still, there are some more comical instances, I might be able to find some videos of one of his more comical fights. Here's the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraman_Cosmos

N.I.G.E.L- A robot from Godzilla the Series, and a cause for much comic relief. Though an advanced and high tech robot, N.I.G.E.L was often sent into situations that were too dangerious for his human allies, like carrying a canaster of monster attracting phermone, which inevitably lead to him being crushed, eaten, stepped on, tail whiped, or other wise destroyed about once per episode, only to be rebuilt by the next episode, good as new and ready to be destroyed again, much to his creators annoyence.

Well I do remember the classic Ultraman (they never called him "Ultraman Cosmos" in the English-dubbed series that I remember watching back when I was a kid). In the 70s, when I was a kid, this was seen as often on television in the U.S. (in translation) as Godzilla movies.

Not to dismiss your post, Godzillawolf, but this topic was really meant to draw attention to characters of a more comedic bent. I do appreciate your participation of course, but the Japanese movie monsters and heroes are not really what I was aiming for. I don't think that N.I.G.E.L. qualifies either - as that character is from the animated Godzilla series. And as I requested for this topic - only live-action characters be submitted. I see no evidence that there was a N.I.G.E.L. character in the original Godzilla movies (if memory serves).

I do indeed remember Mork - one of Robin Williams' breakthrough roles in television. lol Very good addition to the list.

Does anyone remember Johnny 5?

Sure do - the Short Circuit movies mostly. But it does help to provide at least one link with some reference information. Heh. For example: http://www.johnny-five.com.

Sorry, missed that part, but Cosmos is a comical character, not for his character but in how he opperates. He's very diffrent than the original Ultraman, he's all blue in his normal mode for example, they're not even in the same timeline. He often comes off a more of a giant animal handler more than a monster fighter, as his main direction is to hold them off and find a way to pacify them, so he needs to find inventive ways to do it, like tieing up a monster with its own tail or in the case of a reanimated dinosaur creature (that was a zombie), making a halographic verson of a baby version of it to allow it to rest in peace. So his fights often seem comical, so in my mind that seems to fit what you're going for. N.I.G.E.L, year I messed up with that one, it was late. Anyway, I still think Cosmos fits here because he is comical, though not his character itself but the way he does things, though naturally sometimes things got serious but most of the time it was very light hearted.

I remembered Gumby. It used to be on Cartoon Network at midnight way back. I really missed that green dude and his horsey. At that time, Cartoon Network used to be the bomb in the 90's when the old shows were on.
