Since the new thread redirected here, I shall insert my two cents here.
The real-life breed most similar to Dixie is the Pomeranian. Big poofy fur, little face, prick ears, small visible feet, curly spitz-like tail and all. Second closest would be the Long-haired Chihuahua.
Dixie is nothing like a Lhasa Apso except for being toy-sized and long-coated. But there are MANY types of these; Lhasa is not the closest match. Lhasas (unless they’re clipped some other shorter way) have very long (like floor-length), straight hair, & long hanging ears covered in the same hair (and that goes for their tails too, which flop over their backs but in a different way than the Spitz breeds.)
Husky is not a possibility; she’s too tiny and unlike all the other Husky-type dogs. There are some toy-sized Spitz-ish dogs, though (such as the Pom) and this is clearly what Dixie is based on. Poodle is just not, either. Again, no similarity other than small poofiness. Nor is Klee Kai. (I really don't know where that one came from; just because they live in Alaska doesn't mean anything.)
Sylvie, in case anyone wonders, is an Afghan Hound. That’s a pretty easy, obvious one. But Dixie, like many dog characters, was less clearly based on any one specific breed; as many have said, it’s of little to no importance, and the animators never said a thing about it or seemed to care at all. They just wanted a small, fluffy little purple dog. I just wanted to point out what the nearest real-life purebreds are to Dixie.

I wonder... could Dixie be a mixed breed? There has to be some reason that Steele wasn't interested in her.

Yeah, she could be; I always wondered why Steele didn't like her, but I figured he mainly saw her as an annoying and squeaky-voiced little pain in the butt who was too small for him and only got in the way of his trying to get with Jenna. Poor Dix...

I've never really compared because Dixie's character never interested me too much but i suppose they are rather similar and do look alike. His name is Jake. It might just be because it's hot down here so he hasn't got his winter cloak, but if Dixie was drawn right, then i think his fur would be a little more fluffy.

Aww, what a cutie! Yeah, he sure looks like a Dixie-type. She's just purplish/lilac-colored and has all kinds of the changes that come with being animated, but you can see how those are the kinds of little dogs she'd be based on. And I think you mean Papillons--that word is French for "butterfly" and it's a separate dog breed, named for the shape of their large pricked ears that resemble a butterfly's wings. They're in the toy group with the Chihuahua, both varieties (and Pom).

Deffinetly not an Alaskan Klee Kai. Heres a picture of one: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images12/AlaskanKleeKaiKaia2.JPG Alaskan Klee Kais' ar ejust basicly like a miniture Siberian Husky. But i'm not sure of Dixies breed, I think shes a Pomeranian (Not sure if thats spelt right)

Exactly what I said, TikTac and Banshee; you're completely right (and yes, you got the spelling on Pomeranian right!)
