I'm looking forward to the movie.. and it would help since Disney took a break from doing their 2-D films back in 2004 ( remember Home on the Range?), but I'm not 100% sure if it will be the next Little Mermaid/Beauty and the Beast etc.. remember back in 1959. Sleeping Beauty flopped hard and almost sent to the studio to bankrutpcy.. only years later it recoverd enough profits from VHS and DVD releases.. not to mention the critcism. about the races and such.. for all we know it could be another Pocahontas.. (but then again Aladdin made huge Box Office money.. but was under fire from some critics about misrepresenting Arab Culture).. it's kind of funny some people have remarked this looking like All Dogs Go To Heaven (mainly being set in New Orleans).. but I'm thinking more like Disney's Rescuers crossed with Beauty and The Beast.. on the other hand , if the film does well enough and maybe Disney will get Song Of the South out of the Vault

Wow, what an argumented message. What "doesn't look too good", exactly? If the frog himself is any indication of the kind of characters we'll be seeing in this movie, this looks to be the same old crap Disney has been serving us for more than a decade. I wouldn't judge a movie by it's trailer though. Lately trailers have been giving little to no justice to any movie. It was a mistake for me to judge Ratatouille just by its trailer. When I first saw it I was completely disappointed, believing it was Pixar's first major bomb. But later I was convinced to watch it and was glad to be very wrong, it's now one of my favorite Pixar movies next to Wall-E. And then there is Kung Fu Panda, I thought for sure that would be the worst of the CGI movies ever. I was so wrong there to. Now I want to take Kung Fu really badly.

Oh yeah, I found some animation tests for the movie as seen at comic-con: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRimV57FMTc&feature=channelNot that there's enough links on this thread already.

An interesting article about the film : http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... TopStoriesQuote: Disney didn't exactly strike pay dirt with its new all-computers, all-the-time approach. The studio's first fully computer-animated feature, 2005's "Chicken Little," posted a middling $135 million at the domestic box office, and 2008's "Bolt" earned $114 million domestically.
Production costs for films animated by hand or by computer tend to be comparable. The decision to use nearly photorealistic computer imagery, instead of the more impressionistic traditional technique, is mostly a matter of aesthetic calculations. Executives involved in making "Princess" say it cost slightly less than its original budget, which they declined to disclose. Others in the industry estimated the film's cost at around $150 million, a bit less than last year's "Monsters vs. Aliens," by DreamWorks Animation. Finally an answer on whether 2D or 3D costs the most : apparently it's more or less the same. Which means to me that if the film is a bigger success than their CGI previous films (and it's highly possible), I bet that it won't be the last. (even if, for now, they don't have any other 2D animated films planned, unlike 3D) Another long article : Quote: http://www.latinoreview.com/news/interview-princess-and-the-frog-directors-john-musker-and-ron-clements-plus-7-brand-new-images-8310 Interesting to know that they used Toon Boom to make it (the same software used by the Universal DTV sequels...and most DTV sequels, I'm sure)

hmm.. yeah that is interesting Steet so I guess it would have gross just over 145 million (which is the same box office for Lilo and Stitch and Beauty and the Beast ) to be a hit.. though I think Pocahontas earned the same as well, and you know what happpened there.. but I still got good vibes on this movie..

You can't compare the incomes from Beauty & the beast or Pocahontas, with more recent films. (ticket inflations, more people go to cinemas, etc...) Honestly, I really wouldn't understand if it didn't make at least as much as Bolt or Chicken little. And news like this one : http://www.ajc.com/lifestyle/princess-t ... 77616.htmlMake it even more probable. For now, things are looking good. Now just cross fingers, and wait & see...(hoping that the film itself will be good, in the first place! after all we still haven't seen it)

We're starting to get reviews of the film, mostly positive to very positive ones : http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 115S91.DTLhttp://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/fil ... 7951.storyQuote: “Disney brilliantly rediscovering hand-drawn animation and the value of story. The best Disney animated film in years, it dates back to the days when Walt Disney was a person, not a brand”. Quote: Computer animation has yet to lick the warmth factor. Hand-drawn and painted animation has a richness to its textures, brilliance in its colors and humanity in its characters that digital 0s and 1s can't quite hack. "Princess and the Frog" reawakens your appreciation of the timeless beauty of the classic style while evoking a fantastic world with such warmth, vigor and confidence that you surrender to its happy lunacy. Can't wait

I hope, for the love of god, a) this doesn't bomb (unlikely since it's Disney and they'll advertise well) b) Disney doesn't kill the whole movie with terlet humour. I will be very disappoint if this happens.

The movie is open for limited release in New York and Los Angeles now. And there's a new information on Wikipedia :
Budget $105 million
Which isn't as much as I thought (and less than most CGI films of nowadays - that's half the budget of "A christmas Carol"!!!), and a good news - I can only see it earning a lot more than this, it will surely be profitable.

After browsing through this topic, I have decided that I will indeed watch this movie and I probably will enjoy it. At least I hope so.
