"Me?" Jed asked. "My name is Jed. I just though...never mind, it's nothing important." He sighed. "What's you name?"
Casey continued to wander through town happily when he ran into two of dogs. "Hi!" He said. "I'm Casey. How are you?" He didn't know these dogs, but he didn't care. He wanted to meet anyone he came across.
Coal looked around. That pup had gone off without him again. He had too much energy. Coal groaned inwardly, calling his son's name.

"Well, my dad is..." Casey looked behind him. But Coal wasn't there. "Well...he was behind me." He looked around. "I gotta go find him. Want to come? Oh, and I'm not a pup! I'm almost one year old!"
Jed considered it. Friends would probably be something he needed. He met Hale's curious gaze with his working eye. "Yes," He said after moment's hesitation, "That would be nice. But will they..." He thougt a moment, trying to think how to put things, "will they accept me?"

Jed smiled for the first time in three weeks. He followed Hale. But what he saw was a bit of a shock. "Casey??"
"Uncle Jed??" Casey asked. "What the heck are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing. Where's Kanti? Coal"
"Mom's at home. Dad's somewhere in town, we were gonna go looking for him. Wanna come?"
"Well....oh, alright. Fine."

Casey bounded ahead, this time checking back to be sure the others were following. He sniffed around. Where could he be?
On the other side of town, Coal walked, calling his son's name. "I hope he's ok," he thought. What would Kanti do if he came back with Casey? What if Casey got attacked by something? Coal shook his head to clear it and continued the search.
Kanti glanced out the window. Coal and Casey had been gone for a while now. She hoped they were ok.
Jed followed his nephew and new friends. He hoped they would find Coal soon. Lost in though, he was quiet most of the search.

Casey spotted a black dog in a bandana. "Dad!" He called, running over. But the dog turned, and it wasn't Coal. "Er, sorry," Mumbled Casey, "I thought you were someone else." Embarrassed, he searched in the other direction.

Coal looked anxiously. When finally..."Casey!"
The pup turned as his name was mentioned. "Dad!" He yelled, going to join Coal.

"So," said Jed, trying to strike up a conversation, "Are you guys, like best friends, or do you just know each other, kinda?" It was an awkward way to start a conversation, but he couldn't think of anything else.
