You people are getting upset over rumors started online!? Are you kidding me?

Grow up. It's the internet. Whether the rumors are hurtful or not, you probably won't meet the people who started them face-to-face ever in your entire lifetime, so what's the big deal?
It's like they say in school, children - ''If a rumor isn't real, why worry about it?'' (er ... something like that, lol)

The point is, these people who ''bully'' you are most likely hundreds of miles away.

It's the internet.
Get over yourselves.

Besides. The moderators have bigger issues to worry about.

Well for one thing, whether it's online or real life, it's still wrong.

I agree with this. However, you all have to realize that -- no matter how much of an annoyance it is -- people will always talk. About their suspicions, what they hear. That said, I have some collective quotes that should be deeply considered for those who hear, speak, and start/end rumors. They are NOT meant to be directed at any specific person. Just think about them.

• "Some people fall for everything and stand for nothing."

• "A slander is like a hornet, if you cannot kill it dead the first blow, better not strike at it." - H.W. Shaw

• "Believe not all that you see nor half what you hear."

• "None so blind as those who won't see."

• "He who wants the rose must respect the thorn." - Persian Proverb

• "When arguing with a stupid person, be sure he isn't doing the same thing."

Lots of things are wrong, DT -- rumors coming in last on the list.

Stating that it's ''wrong'' isn't what I'd call a valid argument.

Conflicts are a part of life.
It's pointless to worry about them: especially when they're virtual. ;]

Don't know why DT's comment isn't valid. In actuality it is completely valid. Just because something bad happens online doesn't change what it is.

Also, virtual conflicts can potentially be as bad as non-virtual ones. Perhaps a cyber terrorist hacks into a government building and acquires vital information. But for a more local example, some types of rumors can get out of hand. (Though I wouldn't expect them to on this site.) I know I didn't need to point that out, but since you have adopted a definitive rhetoric I was faced with the inclination to do so.

Now off your high horse please.

I agree, that hurting someone's feelings is wrong. Spreading rumours is wrong (I should know, I have been greatly effected by them, offline.).

Online rumors hurt and are wrong as well....However, people mustn't take these this seriously, for the simple reason that they are ONLINE. If it gets sooo terribly BAD, they could just leave, take the email addresses (or some other method of communication) of their close friends.

It's the net, get over it people. Yeah, rumors suck and hurt (to some extent), even online, but...common people. Are you so wrapped up in BS that it really matters that much? If so, that's just plain sad. It's BaltoSource...I love it and like coming on here...But, it doesn't RUN my life. >.>

And honestly, BS is...alot more humane than most other sites, so, try getting beyond BS and see how friendly the world outside BS is. (Hmm, change of scenery might open your eyes a little.)

From what I understand, the point of this discussion is that spreading falsehoods about others is a problem. One might have inferred from your statement that you felt it was OK if it was online. That's what I was trying to refute. But if you agree that it's wrong, then at least we need not argue regarding that.

Ghost Unit --> Thank you for backing me up, and you as well, Autumn. But to what you say about it just being online, I might point out that some people feel much more relaxed on the internet than in real life - in essence, much more free to be themselves. I, for one, cheerfully discuss things on here which would be, at best, difficult to discuss with my roommates at college, such as writing about cartoons or having the occasional dream about Land Before Time. Is right to force added tension into a place of such freedom without a very good reason?

I still stand to what I said before- Rumors shouldn't be let loose.
Even though it's online and "people shouldn't worry 'bout it" it also causes fights, and more, because people tend to be Overprotective, so they'll stick for their friends; barking like a mad dog at the person talking bad or simply stating their thoughts, so that's one way why it shouldn't be ignored. Because a lot of people won't ignore it.

Well, I don't know what kind of strangely bored person would bother to start a rumour on BS (seriously, Balto Source?!) but it should be ignored as much as possible. If the 'gossiping person/people' don't get any sort of reaction they'll get bored and do something else. The best way to prevent is that if you see a rumour about yourself (I don't even know how this is POSSIBLE) just tell them that it's not true. If people keep talking about it, just add them to your ignore list and stay away from the SB.

That raises a question: Is it really an issue specific t Balto Source, or is it a problem elsewhere on the internet?
