Never saw Kung Fu Panda...never had any interest. But based upon what you're describing, I understand what you're trying to say.
I think you have touched on the problem here, and others have around the Balto fan community. It comes down to fans who want to imagine Kodi being paired with Dusty instead of Ralph. Partly, I think, because he is a sympathetic hero (well, to most of us anyway), and there is very little to him that is goofy or dopey, like Ralph (I say that with the codicil that I happen to think Ralph is a wonderful character). Ralph is those things, and he is overweight. And human nature being what it is, weeeeell...
You really oughta check out KFP, it's really good considering most kids' movies these days, especially for being 3D xD. It sends a message that Kung Fu Panda/Dusty+Kodi fans don't appear to grasp O_o That the pudge (along with being goofy) is A-Okay! Okay that's not the real message, but it's certainly in the movie xD
At first the character Po is disliked because of his size and that he doesn't take anything seriously. And boy does he make a comeback

So even if that kind of plot isn't really seen in the movie, why can't Ralph be viewed the same, y'know?

But I also happen to see what the writers were going for when they threw in those subtle cues to indicate that Dusty and Ralph might have a thing going on. At best, Kodi and Dusty are simply friends and teammates. Nothing more. Sure, it's fun to imagine what it would be like if Kodi and Dusty were a couple (certainly there have been many other kinds of "shipping" going on)...but the canon is clear.
(...and Kodi & Dusty ain't it

)
Exaaactly. Serious characters are paired with serious characters. Its never the two imperfect people or the single imperfect person who gets any gratification in fandom D8 But its not uncommon to see. I mean in Tail Spin, don't people tend to pair Baloo with Becky? (I don't really know, I'm not in-tune with the fandom. But as a kid watching it mid-series, I always thought the two were already married because the two argued about silly things like MY parents did LOL)
And in
Treasure Planet, the most unlikely of couples happened (Dr. Doppler and Captain Amelia)
Rover Dangerfield and Daisy? There was a very "handsome" dog in her life, but no, she went with a dogified version of Rodney Dangerfield
There's alot more. But you also see "perfect" characters /not/ paired with "perfect" characters.
Like Peter Pan and Wendy.
Or for dog fans, Dodger and Rita in
Oliver & Co. They never get together and its never implied either.
Or Max and Roxanne in
A Goofy Movie. In the second movie they sure as heck weren't together. Max wasn't even paired with the ONLY GIRL (*gasp*) in the movie (I forget her name, but she was cool). Nope. She was paired with PJ. The fat dopey one.
HA!
So yeah. I see no reason why people absolutely HAVE to pair Dusty with Kodi. Like the pairing, sure. Like it enough to have some theories on what happened AFTER
Wings of Change, sure. But to absolutely despise the Ralph and Dusty pairing because Kodi's perfect and Ralph is fat and stupid? C'mon
