Alright, here's my say in the matter, as neutrally as possible. I know what I think about homosexuality and that's not the point at the moment. The point is how the rule affects the site. Also, this isn't directed at anyone in particular with the exception of the very first point. It's just a general thing to everyone reading.
1. Firstly, the member you speak of has been banned many times for his religious views/talks. If I remember correctly, I had to help break up a huge flame war between them and another member about creationist and evolutionist ideas or some other such atrocious argument. I was definitely there for that one. 2. I don't believe we, as moderators, ever said, "This rule is fair." It's not. But that's the way it is, and it is the best choice for the site at the moment. UK's right, 98% of the population here can't discuss it without getting irritated at least a little. I'm already sensing the tension in this topic and I'm working hard to make sure this post has none. 3. We won't ban you just because you (and you being in a very generalized since to anyone who reads) say, "I have like this boy/girl/whatever." We couldn't care less if you're gay/straight/bi. Just don't talk about it extensively, same with straight people. Remember that whole thing with mate talk? Talking extensively about relationships of any kind is considered that, and people will be banned for it, gay, straight, plant-oriented or alien-oriented. 4. Parents generally don't like their kids being exposed to homosexuality at an early age or through some media that is not of their own device. In short: Parents want to be able to explain it to their kids when they're good and ready, not because the kid saw/read about two guys/girls kissing on the internet. They get very touchy about things like that. The same goes with any sort of move into deeper connections in a relationship. Parents like to control that. 5. The internet (private websites like this one in particular) is NOT a democracy. It's a dictatorship. The webmaster is the king/despot/what have you, and it is their responsibility alone to decide what they want displayed and featured on their website. It is their responsibility to decide what will cause the least amount of tension. Steet has deemed that allowing heavy discussion of this will cause tension, as it did before the rule was instituted. There were huge flame wars. There aren't as many flame wars about it now. Thus, the rule stays. 6. The moderators have already discussed this at length and we came to the conclusion that, though it is unfair, unjust, and - yes, even discriminatory - the rule stays because it's just better that way for now. Majority of the people can't handle this in a sensible way. This is the way things have to and will be and debating the matter is just a waste of time.
