I think it would be different, because the media wouldn't need to tell people what's going on, because it'd be happening right outside their door, perhaps.
I dunno. In that link I put up, the statistics for those who contract and who die from the regular flu is ridiculous in itself. The swine flu isn't even near those number. Until President Obama gives a national speech about the issue I'm not going to worry. There was a similar scare for the West Nile virus, the avian flu, mad cow disease....etc. I think the most recent major outbreak of a virus was Spanish influenza shortly after WWI, which claimed the lives of millions.

To be honest I am not really concerned about this pandemic. Last year and the year before that everyone was freaking out about Avian Flu and since the hub-bub about that died away they started in on another disease which until know you rarely had heard of or cared about. It is just another way the modern media keeps the public scared about something because when people are afraid they consume more goods. Fear=Consumption.

I'll admit I'm slightly off-edge by the whole swine flu thing, there are... 3 reported cases here in the UK. I'm not particularly scared that much by it though, chances of catching it are pretty slim really. It sounds more like scare-mongering than anything else. :/

Normally I would flip out over something like this, but this time I'm going to take a chill pill. In my opinion it just seems like the media is blowing this whole swine flu out of proportion. I'm not really to concerned, every year something like 36,000 people die from the regular flu in the US alone. According to the World Heath Organization there have been only 10 confirmed deaths from the swine flu. Who knows were the number 150 came from.

Wrong, 13 confirmed cases, it's already started to spread, and France has joined the Bandwagon.

About how my low body temp effects the virus, its simple, the body doesn't begin to have a fever unless the virus has taken root. Some viruses cannot thrive below 98.6 degrees and spred slower below that, my temp is normally about 96.8 so viruses spred slowly in my blood, thus allowing my immune system to destroy the virus in question before it spreds far enough for a fever to be needed. Now I am more vunerable to illness if I'm already sick with a fever.
On the Swine Flu thing, I think its simple, people are panicing. But in the good news, this might actually HELP the econimy! Antiflu drugs and those white surgical masks are now in high demand, they've had to increase producion outside of flu season, thus they're earning money, which their workers can earn and spend. See my point?

See my point? Help the Economy? More like practically destroy it. And also, can you translate the temperature into C?

It will not destroy the economy. If anything, it will help, like Godzilla stated. Things that require people's time/effort and labor generate jobs, and jobs are good for the economy because it generates money.
The only way this will end up hurting the economy is if there is a massive amount of people dying.

No, it's damaging the economy, Mexico is a huge holiday destination, they also have lots of work, but with Mexico going into lockdown for the next few days, could leave smaller companies begging for the odd shilling. Not the mention the huge impact that it will do to the travel industry. It may help the Economy in some ways, put the con's are in larger quantity then the pro's.

Whatever economy is being hurt by the less vacations is probably being made up for in the preventive measures being taken by countries. Just because one economical outlet is lost does not mean that it is ultimately bad for the economy, because it may open other doors. Take World War II for example. The United States ceased trade with Japan, which hypothetically would have damaged the country. But with war came the need for weapons, and when factories re-tooled to help supply the war effort, the economy was booming and this pulled the United States out of the Great Depression. Same concept with the swine flu. Some economical doors may have been (temporarily) shut, but the need for vaccines and other preparatory measures stand to fill that gap. Mexico is one place, but preparatory measures are being taken across the globe. I would be very surprised if the economy did not cut even or increase because of this.
