In other words, people have the right to be cuckoo. Iagree, but they should at least admit that they're being so, assuming they have the capacity to realise it. In other words, if you're crazy and you know it, don't pretend everyone else is.
Well actually, and in other words, people have a right to envision "fan shipping" models for their own edification, pandering and what-not, but they DON'T have anymore right to defend "fan shipping" as a freedom and then trash those who express their opposition or offense to certain pairings or situations (or reimaginings of established characters or settings). There cannot be one without the other.
"Cuckoo" is an extremely subjective analysis of those who support or engage in "fan shipping".
And when they have gone so far as to accuse us canonists of being the "fan-shippers" for intruding on their fantasies? I can name precisely such a case.
But you're right, these people who like to throw rules out the window when they don't suit them are all the same. "Oh, what's right for you may be right for me. What? No, you can't steal my wallet, that would be wrong." "Everyone should have freedom of speech. Now shut up, you dumb-headed conservative (canonist)." "At this school, we support freedom of speech. / Oh, we can't post this comic, it might offend someone." It just goes one and on.
