I'd like to practice at a professional dojo but I can't afford it. Really, I am intrested in Martial Arts, but the reason I want to learn is so I can protect myself and my family. I'm bullied often, I'm a smart kid, we all know smart kids get bullied a lot for some reason, so I want to be able to defend myself if the bullies get phsyical. I'd love to get professional training but I'm not able to afford it. My good intentioned friend is a black belt, so I think he'd count as a master though.

My parents would like me to but I'm about to go into collage and the only school in my area is rather pricy, I'm hoping my collage has a martial arts class. My friend practices multible styles and has a couple black belts, I believe his highest one is 3rd Dan, not sure but I know he has a belt of that rank, he is qulified to train. He's also trained in several sword styles, I've seen parts of his collection. His best and personal favorite style is Bear, which I'm not learning but knowing Bear is useful in learning the other animal styles as its one of the first which most others draw from.

I'm currently taking Karate and I'm a nidan(second degree black belt). I've been taking Karate since I was about eight and I got my shodan(first degree black belt) about five years ago. I got my nidan about a year and a half to three years ago and I'm close to getting my sandan(third degree black belt). I like Karate but I might do other martial arts someday and I'll have to quit my school soon when I go to college. Over the years I've gotten tons of weapons from my training and I have two bo(s), three katana(two wooden and one metal), four shuriken, and two knives(wooden), Godzillawolf wrote: Also, there are the five animal styles, Mantis, Tiger, Monkey, Crane, and Snake, anyone able to remember a recent movie with those five animals in it? Was it Watchmen?

Hm. I am currently doing a TaeKwanDo class which I go to every Saturday. We have our grading every three months, and I really love it. I get sooo nervous on the grading day, though -because our grading man is H-U-G-E, THE scariest person I've ever met. I would like it if our classes involved a little more street defense, though, sicne that and fitness is really what I go for. Oh, and I'm an orange belt. ^^

I prefer Jackie Chan movies. He and Jet Lee started in a new movie not that long ago, didn't they? I loved the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon as well. On an unrelated note, I had no idea there were so many Black Belts here on Baltosource!

I'm getting close now to kearning tae kwon doe,but another I wish to learn is sword play(which counts as a martial art,but as a western) 2010 Update:sadly won't be able to join USMC due to "complications" though do study WW 2 combatives, but have gotten the chance to join a martial art. I am currently a Yellow belt in "Kuk Sool Won",a korean martial art system that translates to "national korean Martial Art".It covers wide range of skills from jointlocks, small joint manipulation and throws(my personnal favorite) to hand strikes, kicks and weapons(advanced belts). I plan to leran at least one other martial art(debating on that),but overall I am greatly enjoying my training.Hopefully will be a 1st degree back belt in about 2 more years or so. kSW of ST.Paul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUNv5FhtRL0
