Quote: Last night Michaela Aston, of the anti-abortion Christian charity LIFE, said: “We commend these teenagers for their courage in bringing their child into the world. Did I just read the word 'commend?' While I agree that it is brave of them to let their child be born, the time they really should have been commended was when they decided to use a reliable contraceptive, and at the legal age too. They made the best of their blunder. Frankly, I'mnot even sure this sort of thing ought to be discussed here, given that a number of younger people use this site. But here's my two cents: 1. This is sick, and not in a good way as some people use the word. 2. They did the right thing not to abort. It isn't the baby's fault. 3. This just goes to show that there isn't enough abstinence-until-marriage education going on. That's what we really need. 4. I'm going to check with a mod and let them decide if this topic is even acceptable on here.

As long as the discussion remains within the boundaries of the rules, this topic is fine.

i didn't read the whole article but just beginning of it is shocking and also i saw someone write that that boy might not be the father and this girl slept with several other guys... that's sickening... and she's 15 and she's basically already some sort of ********* (sorry but if she slept with like almost 7 DIFFERENT guys... that's just grosse..) and it's getting pretty common... ever since the movie Juno in my eyes i've seen pregnancy in teenagers boost by like.. mmmm .. 95% o.O (don't know if the world has noticed but i'm just saying in my eyes and mind).. For those who don't know the movie Juno, it's about a 16yr old girl who gets pregnant but gives her baby up for adoption... ever since that movie was released in theatres and then on DVD i saw a dramatic change and tons of teenagers started getting pregnant.. it's a new "fad"..... now that boys are acting like they're ready to have children that's just where the city and whatnot should take a little more control and start teaching sex ed at a younger age if we want this to stop. To the extent.. if the parents teach this girl and boy how to properly care for a baby (cuz babies can cost up to 10 000$ a year that's everything) and the parents help care for this baby.. i don't see why not but... i still think it's wrong for a girl who should be in school and the child should be in a foster home until she is finished school, has a job, can actually care for it herself and have her own place then yeah... otherwise i think the baby is somewhat unsafe and she shouldn't keep it, not at this age.. not when she needs an education more than anything.

I'm sorry, but what sixteen year-old in ther right mind sleeps with a twelve year old? And seven other boys oldest of whom was her age?....geez.... .....I feel sorry that it happened in my country. I feel even sorrier for their poor little kid, Maisy And I hate to admit it, but I sympathize a bit with "Daddy", who is a little younger than me, because in one of the video links you can just tell from the look on his face...he's terified. It's quite easy to tell that he didn't know what he was getting himself into....and now the world's in uproar. Canis Lupus wrote: Thirteen? Conay_White_Star_Line wrote: It's sickning, Chantelle should of got an Abortion. That wouldn't have solved anything. All it would have done would be to cover up their error and terminate the only innocent party in the whole matter. I'm not saying I'm at all glad this happened. I'm disgusted by it. But it brings home a crucial fact: people are not responsible anymore, with their bodies or anything else. DarkCloud wrote: Thank you. You guys are saying it's sick that she had a baby, but that it's ok for her to kill it? What kind of logic is that? In my opinion, killing that baby is wrong. Should she be punished for her parents' actions? I don't think so. That child has the right to live. If the mom thinks she's not ready for it, there is such a thing as adoption, y' know. (I'm gonna stop right here, because I'm one of those people who thinks abortion is equal to murder. You can have your own opinion, but if I keep going, I might get upset.)
But, I agree with you all on one point: this shouldn't ever happen. I'm 13 now, and this sounds terrible to me. Getting pregnant so early? Not an option for me. I'd rather live alone and never have kids. Sadly, I've kinda experienced this personally; my stepsister had a baby at 16, and she's 18 now and has a second baby, by a different guy. It's....very, very sad. I can't explain my feelings too much further than that. Exactly. Like I said, the baby is the only innocent party here, and should be given to one of the thousands of couples out there who are waiting to adopt because they can't have their own. It's a little-known fact that with abortion rates as high as they are, many couples who truly should have a chance to raise children never get to. Watch the documentary on "Demographic Winter" for details.

Although my opinion's are not very strong on this case, if I was the father (Or... Mother) I should of suggested an abortion. Although, on the other hand - As some of you have said, maybe they should just put her up for Adoption?
(However, you have to be careful with Adoptions sometimes)

There is no excuse for abortion except in the case that the mother's life is at risk or if the woman was sexually abused and got pregnant.

Ghost-Unit wrote: There is no excuse for abortion except in the case that the mother's life is at risk or if the woman was sexually abused and got pregnant. Still not the baby's fault. And even in cases like that, there are alternatives. For example, an unborn baby can be transplanted from one woman's womb to another. I am aware of one case, for example, where a woman was expecting twins (identical, as it turned out) and, for some reason, could not safely carry both of them to term. So she had one of them transplanted to her sister, who carried and birthed the baby for her. Both women survived, and the children were born healthy (and with the rare distinction of being identical "cousins"). So even in cases of the mother having been... mistreated, or in the event that she cannot safely have the child herself, it's not like abortion is the only option, no matter what groups like Planned Parenthood may tell you.

You're right, admittedly I didn't think of those options until you brought them up. It appears that we share similar beliefs on this topic. The preservation of the sanctity of life.
It is beyond me why the parents of the young parents would even allow the girl to have an abortion, if that was even discussed within the families. Regardless, if she had an abortion then it would serve to tell the world that having an abortion because there was an "accidental" pregnancy is a perfectly feasible and logical solution, which it is not. Now, I am no expert on puberty but, if I had to guess, I'd say the fifteen year old girl is capable of nourishing and carrying and supporting the life of her young baby until it is born.

Well, I'm thirteen and I actually think that I girl I know that is my age is having sex with random people. I'm not sure if it's true, but the evidence points towards it. She also smokes and could be on drugs. All of which are illegal at her age. While me and my friends are very immature and joke about such things, the thought of it actually being true is disgusting. The girl is obviously not mentally ready for such things (sleeping with several guys is an obvious example). However Ghost-Unit wrote: Now, I am no expert on puberty but, if I had to guess, I'd say the fifteen year old girl is capable of nourishing and carrying and supporting the life of her young baby until it is born. It depends, but I'd say she most likely is.
