Why is it "Rediculous", a Human, can call 999 (Or 911, 112, exc.), a Human can fight back, a human has a voise of opinion, weather it's in court, or in the general public, humans (In some country's) can carry fire arms (Although, this I disagree with). Animals, cannot - They are defenceless.

Animals, cannot - They are defenceless. It is ridiculous because you are equating animal life to human life. It is narrow-minded to suggest that animals are defenseless. There is a reason why a hunter would not take on a bear or wolf or other potentially dangerous predator with a knife, because they would lose that fight and likely their life. Animals can defend themselves, just not in the way that we can. And that differentiates us from them. If animals had a right to a trial or were subject to the same laws as humans were, there would be countless cases of rape and murder among the animal community. You're starting to sound like one of those PETA terrorists.

Animals, cannot - They are defenceless. Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. I believe that animal cruelty (caused by humans) SHOULD be punished! Just not as harsh you are saying you'd like. I mean, animals can defend themselves. If a human got mad and kicked their dog (depending on size), it could fight back. Even small dogs, though they would most likely end up losing. But that still doesn't mean that we should all be punished so harshly. Ex. A human strangles a bird, killing it. A human strangles the presidnet, killing him. Are you saying that they should both get EQUAL punishment? I love animals, but a bird is a bird, a PRESIDENT is a PRESIDENT. And don't say anything about "increasing punishment" for the president, because he/she is just another human being with higher power. I know I'm being stubborn by saying that, but it's what I believe is true.

Quote: I want to be a Labour/BNP MP, So you either want to join the party that has driven the UK into the ground for over 10 years or you want to join the ranks of homophobic racists who should never be allowed to get a postion in politics anyway. Your reasoning and plans are very ill thought out. Why would kicking a dog in the head be more highly punished then kicking a women in the face? If I raped an animal would that be worse then me raping a human being? Your words smack of putting superiority over animals rather than humans. This is even more hilariously flawed when you take into consideration that humans ARE animals. With that fact it basically means you must think humans are lower. Sorry to give you this reality check but most people in this world will value humans first. We take care of our own in our society first. A wolf pack would take care of its own before any others (if they could that is). The same with any heirachy structure in natural world. The laws and the ways we act reflect this. I am not saying that animal abuse should be tolerated but that does not mean the punishments should be any worse than what they were if they were done to a human being. With your attitude you would never get elected to anything much anyway. This topic as a whole just smacks of "baaw baww humans are evil and hurt porr wittle animals, punish abusers maor". Most of the posts in this follow the same trend and to be honest there is barley even a real discussion point. I love how no one dares consider acually finding out why people abuse animals and you know try and treat them?

I see the good of harsher punishments cause the harsher the punishment, the more likely the abusive individuals will be deterred from abusing animals. It's kind of hard to explain I'm afraid, but using fear of retaliation might work

The animal is not going to be comforted by the person getting the same punishment as they don't have the brain power to do so. Oh top of that you are going to be basically advocating torture which is a very sickening thing. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and you don't know if it will even deter it. On top of that if we go by the assumption that must people who attack and hurt animals are mentally ill. Punishing them does not help their illness or cure them of it.

I know I'm being stubborn by saying that, but it's what I believe is true. Well, not sure if I stated that in my last post - Obviously not, however - it depends on the crime, if you beat a defenseless animal to death, I feel you should have a simlar punishment to beating up one of us, HOWEVER - It depends, we are all living things, anyway -The president has protection left right and centre, what do the birds have? thats all i've got to say. And I agree with the BNP's Immigration Policy, maybe not some of there plans like "Send 'em all home", but walking down the streets of London, I was the ONLY Englsh person on the Tube, and it's getting sick, especially with loads of Africans coming to this country for benefits. Yes, punishing people that have a mental illness IS wrong, but there are some sick people in this world, and they SHOULD be punished.

Anyways anyone else who feels posessed to hurt an animal probably won't do it because they'll see what happens when others do it and get caught. Life if full of torture and its sickening but what is more sicker then torturing a creature that can't even cry out or understand what they did wrong for the person they depend on to cause them so much pain?

Conay-
So what happens it they attack a non-defensless animal? I know that birds and partailly-undefensless, but what about a dog? They can defend themselves fine. With the execption of puppies and smaller dogs, that is. And cats have claws, and you KNOW what monkies can do to people. Horses can kill people easy, just as bulls, steers, and even cows. A lot of animals can defend themselves, so what happens to people that abuse them, then the animal kills them or wounds them very badly? (If the man.woman lives) should they still go to jail? Should the animal be put down? Like I said before, equal punishment is not the answer.

Look, we all know animal cruelty is bad and in a completely fair world there'd be equal punishments--- better yet, there'd be no cruelty at all. But it isn't a perfect world. Rather than giving them harsher punishments (I know the ones these days are little weak, and maybe increasing the time just a little could do well) why don't we work on enforcing the punishments? Or preventing it from happening in the first place, with early education and actually having people report these things.
