Being accused of stealing names

True. I didn't mean to say that your predicament was funny. It's never fun to be wrongfully accused of stealing anything. If someone does accuse you of stealing the name, the best way to go about it is just to politely tell them that it is coincidence and that they can't copyright the name anyway. (I mean gee, one of my character's is named after Aniu, and this is even part of her history.)

On a side note: Lux totally changed his display name on skype to what I posted, XD

Like already stated, you can not own a name 100%
But if someone spams you, or acuses you of something that is related to anyway to the site, it would be best for a mod to deal with it. You know, ask the mod to ask the other user to stop, because Flamming any thing in comments can be given a warning for. (Like if you Flame a Comment for like Fanimage, I am sure and I have been told you can get a warning.)

copyrighting a name is just stupidity. i meen its just like complaining to some one because they have the same name as you. :roll:

Person 1: Hi i'm Katie whats your name!
Person 2:Hey my names Katie! Copycat! *crys to mummy*

get my drift here

this actually happened to me today i adopted a dog on here and called it Leolia. Someone came along saying " Hey my char's called leolia! rename it!" Please :roll:

Not really.
No name can be copyrighted. The chance of one person and one person only, out of everyone on the planet, thinking up a totally original name that no one would have thought up a similar name is about as unlikely as someone being able to fly to Pluto on a commercial jet.
A.k.a - Very unlikely indeed.

If it's blatantly obvious someone has copied from someone else, ex: They comment on a character one day saying how cool it is - the next day they've changed their name to that name with 1 letter different - you could kindly ask that they don't do that but it can't be copyrighted.

Seriously ironic that this is happening on this topic.

Nobody can say that they are the original creator of a name so for all of ya who think that they alone should be able to use something that can(and has) been thought up before them is completely nuts.

If everybody acted like that then we would only have a couple people who could use any name and that would be the end of everything.
