I myself do hate animal testing. But I do see that it is needed. Louie Pasture was the man to find a vaccine for rabies, witch at the time was killing many people, including one of his own kids. I also know that he tested on animals. And because of this he saved many lives. I may not like animal testing and I do think it is cruel but at times it is needed. Hopefully one day we can find a way to test on something other then animals and get just as good or bad results as we would get on animals.

Some things in this world that seem cruel are needed at times. And if you would rather have a relative die then the rat then you may be killing someone who could have found a way to help animals seance the rat that the drugs where tested on saved the person's life. Animal testing is cruel and bad but it is also very helpful and needed.

Well put Emuku_girl,I aree. and if I can add a bit more about the discovery of the rabies vaccine. It has also saved many animal lives- systems Animal testing helps animals too.

The rabies vaccine has probably stopped the spread of rabies rabies-free countries such as New Zealand and the UK.
It has also made animal transportation and quarantine easier. The UK has a system to reduce or eliminate quarantine. Provided the animal/s have a rabies vaccine, microchip and a some other procedures 6 months prior to transportation.
the system is called 'Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)' Link: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm

LOL, I see no one actually has ever been to an animal testing place. Anyway, to answer the final question, I would personally choose for the relative to die, why should other living things suffer for the benafit for one.

Ugh, I'm glad I'm not in your family then.

Maybe you should be, personally, why should animals have to suffer? Animals that had a life, gets captured and tested on, even if the animal wanted to reject.

But still, maybe you don't want to be in my family, But Animal Testing is the most cruel way to test Clinical Drugs.

Since i assume you feel so strongly about this then may I ask if you take medicine / tablets when you're sick? Because I assume unless you feel very strongly about this you won't take the medicine because it was tested on animals first years ago? The way you’re talking you’ve obviously never lost someone to cancer or a disease which had yet to have a cure found because if you had you would do anything you could to save them. If I could cure the world of cancer right now and save all those sick children, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters who will not make it to Christmas this year I would test a thousand animals to do it. Is it fair that millions of children younger than five continue to die each month all over the world for the sake of saving a few mice? I'm not replying to this thread any more because it's obvious you won't listen to reason and thus I won't waste my time on you any more.

My friend, and uncle have both died of cancer, my uncle could of been cured, however we refused to allow 3.2 million animals to be tested on.

But anyway, hen it comes to air freshion'ers and stuff, thats even worse.

But the thing which I hate, why cant they test it on humans? 99.9% of the time, the tets would be more affetiant(sp?) Unlike testing animals which actually barely proove's anything. AND unlike human testers, the animals do it against there will.

They do test it on humans. When the drug passes animal testing, a group of 100 or so volunteers with the disease agree to be tested on. Half are given the actual drug, while half are given a placebo (which does nothing to them). They do not know whether they are getting the drug itself or the placebo. Animal testing continues just to make sure for safety reasons. If the drug is successful on those who are given it, then it is almost past the testing stage.

But besides that, I consider animal testing to be the 'lesser of two evils.' I don't understand why you value the lives of mice over those of men. And you say that it 'barely proves anything?' What about the rabies vaccine, which was tested on animals, and now saves countless lives all over the globe? Yes, I feel that animal testing should be kept to a minimum, and there are laws regulating the number of animals used. Until we can find a suitable alternative, animal testing is a sad but necessary part of life.

(And if I were you, I really wouldn't trust those ALF people. Thanks to them, our population of water voles are declining because they released all those American minks from fur farms. Talk about 'love for animals.')

Excuse me? A "Few" little mice. NO, it's hundreds of mice, thousands of wild animals, MILLIONS of animal every month are getting killed because of humans FORCING them to take injections. And maybe you've never been to an animal testing centre, they treat the animals like the're not inportant, trap them in small cages, only let them out for when they get injections, or to be tested on. I would rather a few thousand people die, then millions of animals.

Anyway, you go "I don't see how you can value a mice's life more then a man", actually - I don't, I see them as the same, the're not more inportant then humans, but we're deffinately not that inportant. The only Animal that is better then all other's is the Bee.

O-o??The Bee??

Anyway.......I to see animals and men as the same. But animal testing is needed. Besides if we can curse the disease that kill humans, the humans saved could go out to help animals. Somethings we dont like we need to face. Animal Testign is a cruel and bad thing. But it is needed. And who knows?! Maybe one day someone will find a way through animal testing to help the animal themselves. Face it Conay_White_Star_Line, aniaml testing may be bad but at the moment it is needed. And there is nothing we can do for the moment to stop it. But hope that we can find a way to replace it with another type of testing that would give the same results.

I guess Hundreds of millions of animals are not really that inportant when the're tested on. With no say on the issue  .

And yes, the Bee, if all the bee's die out (Which are at a high risk of doing so), within four years, the human race will be no more.

There's no point, since Conay obviously isn't going to listen to reason. And no, 'wild' animals are not tested on. It's domestic animals such as mice and rats who are bred for that purpose. And also, you laugh at us because we have never been inside a lab, but have you?

I think that animal testing needs to be stopped. March of Dimes or so I have heard cause monkey's to have babies prematurly, they sew newborn kittens eyes shut, and they have also been said to take organ's from monkies and put them into pigs. Reading that news made me sick. I hope they suffer the same fate in there second life.

animal testing it wrong. it's bad, it's not fair, but it is needed.
many people wouldn't be alive today because of it and lots of animals wouldn't be alive today either.
i know it is crule to test on animals, but if i had a choice of my life or 100 mouse lives, i'd choose my oun life. i would feel horrible and bad for the rest of my life but if i live, i can help 1000 of animals, with other issues. like stray animals for example.

But what no one understands, it's not just mice, when they test on animals, they test on: Mice, rats, dogs, cats, Monkeys (Which is probably the closest species to us), bunny's, and LOTS of other animals. Maybe it's needed, but the term "Yours or a few mice", is not jst abit unfair, but also an incorrect statement.
