I agree about it being seen a bit too much in the shout box,but anyone who I've had a good conversation and positive relation with is a friend to me.

Except for emily123, ya all have such negative views about the whole "friend" thing on here. Yes, it can get kinda annoying when people ask to be friends when ya don't know them; but how can they ever become your friend if ya have such a wall between ya and them from the get go? The friend list is a great way for people to slowly become friends on here and it helps to remove/lessen the barriers ya have over time. Ya can't make friends with people that ya won't even give a chance to.

0..o I never thought of it that way but that is a good point there. Yes you shouldnt put up walls but if you keep pestering to be friends then thats not a right way of doing it.

Well, when I first came to this site, I didn't go to introductions or the shout box. I just went straight to the Balto and TLK boards (mostly TLK) and just started talking about the movie/s. I rarely go on the shoutbox. But, if someone asks me "Will you be my friend?" I'm all "Sure, why not?" even though I'd rather befriend someone by talking to them and getting to know them and what they are like, I won't say no to someone wanting to befriend me.

But yes, random PMs from people that say "I'm new and I don't know anybody friends please/???" yeah, it's annoying, but it's not like I'm gonna say no. But it's unlikely that I'll talk to anyone that asks me that, unless they say something first.

I don't think there's really anything to get too worked up over. Sure it's annoying when people are forever saying "Can we be friends? :D " on the shoutbox but there's no reason to say no.

Quite a few people have said that to me in the past after they've first joined and more often than not they'll PM you a few times, chat randomly and after a short while they'll make proper friends the usual way. All you've then done is helped someone join the site in a friendly way.

No harm in that at all. I find it gets more annoying to see people respond "I don't know you ._. No." It's such a negative attitude and I'd imagine very off-putting for someone new to the site, particularly someone fairly young.

If I remember right, isn't that how we became friends nearly 3 years ago? x]

But I agree. Many people that do this are just younger kids eager to be friends. Sure, it might get rather annoying if they send PM after PM after PM, ect... But it's no reason to say flat out "no". Often times, like UK said, I find that more annoying for people to say. Partly because it's just much more rude. And blunt.

My rule is this; if I have never spoken to you before and you ask to be my friend, I'm not going to be friends with you. If you introduce yourself, give a decent handshake, I'm still not going to be friends with you. Why? Because I consider my friends people I know and talk to. I've had a bit of exchanges with saske-italian-wolf, so I'm cool with her. But if randomwolf2469814 comes on and say "OMG LETS BE FRIENDS" I'll ask "Have we met before?"

Would you ask someone on the street to be your friend? No.
