You do make a good point but, I am sure they would be out.....BUT there is a good possibility that there might have been some left

Yes, it'd be a good idea to question your grandmother more on his topic even though I'm quite sure that it most likely wasn't Balto that saved her even though Balto was still alive in 1929. By then, he was probably in Cleveland.

Not in 1925 it wasn't. It was only a territory of the U.S. Not a state. It didn't become a state until 1959.

Well, if WolfDancer's grandmother was 10 or 11 in 1929, then that means she was 6 or 7 in 1925. She would have been approximately the same age as the Rosy character in the Balto cartoon (who approximates a girl of about 7 or 8 ), but it is doubtful she remembers what happened. Can you honestly say you remember even important events that happened in your life when you were that age? Could you when you're a senior citizen? I'm 39, and those years are a distant memory for me...sketchy. I can recall a few things, but not much. And it's not because my memory is bad. It's just that it's been a long time, and our brains go through changes as we age...and memories of our youth (especially that young) get stored away in the recesses of our brain's memory banks.
And if she were in Nome in 1925 at 6 of 7, it is possible she might have seen Balto's team arrive. Or she might have seen him on the streets of Nome with Gunnar Kaasen, the team's musher. Or working with Kaasen and his team in their capacity as sledders for the Pioneer Gold Mining Company (which is what Leonhard Seppala, Gunnar Kaasen, and all the dogs on Seppala's and Kaasen's team did before and after the Serum Run...save for Balto and Togo...but their true stories are posted elsewhere on this board).

well, Balto saved Nome in 1925. Your grandmother was there in 1929...so she's a few years too late.
