Well at least we're getting somewhere. I will say that most species with scent glands give off a more powerful scent during mating season, this includes dogs, its just I don't think people tipically smell them. And skunks mating season is tipically from Feburery (don't comment on my spelling please) through March, though that's just the Striped Skunk. That's a month till May, which most people consider Summer, since school lets out, so it is possible it was mating season. I've cross refrenced that on many sites so I know the validy. Its also possible the skunk had sprayed recently, so some musk might of lingered on its...well I won't go there. I'm just saying its not tipical for skunks to stink and I am looking for the site I've seen that on. Vincie wrote: Hm...I wouldn't rely on Wikipedia for much My dog was sprayed a few weeks ago, and we used peroxide in her bath. It actually got - most- of the smell out. (Bleached her fur a bit, though xD) It really is a fact that the smell worsens when wet. I've given Sam (my dog) a few baths since then and she still smells like the musk when she is damp :/ Thanks for validating my fact, its good to get an example.

Alright, I actuelly looked back at the Project Wild Life site and it says a skunk's den may have a very slight musky smell, so I guess you were right and I accept that, I'm just going to say its normally not very noticeable, probably because people that get close enough to smell it would probably have ignored or not seen the warnings and got sprayed, so if you got close enough to smell it and not need a tomato juice bath, you got lucky. I'm sorry for bringing this discussion out so long, though I stil say they don't stink (the dictionary for stink is "smell horrible: to have a very strong and unpleasant smell) , just have a slight odor, so my myth/truth is still technically correct but I will edit it to take this discussion into account.
And as for the latter thing about musk glands, I've seen that on like a million Animal Planet documentaries.

Well there's really nothing that can truely get rid of skunk spray, its one of natures most potent defenses.
Well that depends on how you think about it, in a way, musk glands are a more highly specilized scent gland, really the only definition for scent glands is a gland that produces some form of scent. Anyway, sense you've been looking around, care to post any more myth/facts you found?

Oh, I was just checking if you'd found anything about skunks you'd like to share. History is a good thing to know though, to quote "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Well that's just the way I heard it and its easier for me to remember, it means the same thing. If someone knew enough about the past, they could fix a lot of the trouble the world has right now.
Though that's really off topic entirely.

Yeah. Here's some facts, which I don't know myths to go with.
Pet skunks are gaining popularity in the US and Canada.
Pet Skunks have their musk glands removed at about 4 weeks of age.
Very few states allow pet skunks due to laws passed before pet skunks became popular, due to them being considered wild animals at the time, but petitions are being written to change this.

I don't think they would make good pets, but Not too sure XD as I would never own one, but I'm sure that they get the same comments as rats do (I've had many pet rats, and they are really clean too) XD I guess its depended on the person, some people think they're great pets others don't. Though if a non-descented skunk is trained, it might make a good guard animal, what robber would rob a house if it had a 'guard skunk'.
