If you want to add a background, use the 'magic wand tool' and select the blank area. (Using the shift button+click to select more than one) Once you've coloured the selected area you will need to use the grass tool again. (You'll see why) This is why most Photoshop Artists prefer doing the sky, wall, lake etc before using the Grass Tool. Hope I helped Kirette. =)

Thanks for your help! :] I've tried the magic wand tool, selecting the focal point (in other words, Kirada). Maybe I should have thought it through and clicked "Select Inverse," being as I can EASILY make the grass again. X]

Layers. You may actually have to restart the whole picture if you want to add a background correctly and have no chance of it messing with your drawing.

1. Your original work will remain on layer zero.

2. Create a second layer over Layer 1

3. You are going to ink on this layer, it will be labeled Layer 2

4. Once you have inked Layer 2, create another layer over that, Layer 3

5. On Layer 3 you will see in the layers box it is set to "Normal" change that to multiple, now you may colour over your image without ruining the line art.

6. Erase layer one so it has a nice clean white background, that is where you will paint your background image.

If you want to create layers for shadows and highlights simply create them over layer 3, set those to mutiple and put your highlights and shadows over that.
