Although I was responsible for some of the Ask a Balto character topics, they're beginning to annoy me as well.

Well, isn't this ironic. The one responsible for most such topics is now annoyed by that one's own creation. Am I the only one who taken any notice of this :?:

Oh, you're not the only one.

Have you noticed that there's already ANOTHER "Ask Balto" topic in the Balto 1 board? I guess the topic from the "one responsible" wasn't enough for this new author...or else this new author didn't use the search engine like he/she was supposed to: http://baltosource.timduru.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22815

Ok that is sad. Can you not see the Search button on the top of your screen?

These topics annoy the heck out of me.

I believe I once saw a 'Ask Scar' topic and someone asked 'How did you get your scar?' The creator replied with 'My father did it.'

:? That is completely untrue. It says in a book from Disney 'The Lion King: 6 New Adventures: A Tale of 2 Brothers' It says Scar got his scar from an angry water buffalo named Boma.

Read it for yourself: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v164/ ... _brothers/

Its annoying actually VERY. Most of the information isn't even true.
So I agree.

*sigh* Mere stupidity, JC. Some people just don't search the site or read the rules before hand, that's why.

Well, some people think they can do whatever they want on the Internet, even on an innocent(?) forum such as ours. But as with all things, there are rules, and unfortunately, some rules need strict enforcement.

By golly, if there was a law . . . there needs to be a stop put on these ridiculous threads. Seriously. Fan characters that actually are yours should be okay, but if it's an official character, then NO - it should not even be made at all, despite the popularity of the character.

Which brings up another thing, why are these fan-character ones popping up on the "fan-fiction" section? They aren't fan-fiction, but I'd think they'd be more appropriate in the "Role-playing" section of the forums, don't ya think?

(Yes, I know the last time this topic was posted in was August 2008, but it was on the third page and in accordance to the new "topic necromancy rules" is safe to post in. So don't go telling me that I'm breaking a rule because I know them. ;D)

This is still a fairly large problem. Really, I would like to see them be made against the rules. They are nothing more than spam. No one actually knows how the character would 'respond'. It's all purely fan based and most of the questions asked (and thus - answers given) are not how it would be in the movies. In the Lion King boards alone, there are 6 topics likes this in TLK section, 9 in TLK II : Simba's Pride section, and 3 in TLK 1/2 section. Most of which are hardly even formed correctly. Though, even if most people were able to "form" them correctly, they still shouldn't be accepted.

Now, just because I despise this idea for the movie characters, really doesn't mean I feel the same way about fan made characters, even though those topics usually run ramped with a "egotistical" feel to them. Really now, if someone has a "question for your character", they can PM you. While they are interesting to read, and I'll admit I've read through some of them before, they are still not needed. They only take up space. The place for that could be making a section on your FanFic Presentation with an FAQ. People PM you the questions, and your characters "answer" them, you putting it on the presentation. Heck, that would probably be the easy way to go.

On the other hand, the "ask me" topics are as absurd as the "ask [insert random Balto/Lion King character here" topics. This is Balto Source (well... Animation Source). No one on here is famous. No one really gives a care what your favorite cookie is or how long you've been drawing. If people really want to know, they can PM that person. There's no need nor purpose to make an entire topic for stuff like that. And, like the "ask my characters" topics, they have "egoistical" written all over them from page one to the last page. No matter what, that's the only way those come off as. It doesn't matter if that's they way they are intended, it's the way it is. And I know for a fact there's at least one other person who agrees with this part.

... I really had more planned to say, but I cannot keep track of my thoughts for the life of me. But I got the gist of it down... Fail.

Even though these topics are, uh, shall we say, "past their prime," I still found them useful. Inspired by them, I started the "Ask A Musician" topic in the music section. The concept is this: Members of this site can ask musician-members music-related questions. So far, it's just been musicians asking other musicians. But everybody is welcome to ask.

I think that kind is fine. Because it's a specific thing that members can ask about - talk about. That kind serves a purpose. Those other topics... don't. xD

Those kinds of topic don't bother me too much 'cause I don't post on them or even look at them. I prefer to ignore them and it works pretty well but they can get annoying after a while.

The best thing to do short of having a mod lock it is to just ignore them.

I belive the topics aren't so bad. It's more the people who create them. I've only seen one decntly constructed topic like this, and as far as I know it's not locked.

That's the kind of thing seen in almost all of the topics. And even if it was true that "my father did it", how about a more detailed response. If they didn't know the true story, they could've made something up that was actually believable, for example:

The lionesses had just taken down a large zebra and as I came down to eat my fill, pushing past all the lower-ranked females, Sarabi growled at me to go away. I growled back but ignored her, and she growled again, so I shoved her away with my paw. She tackled me and pinned me to the ground and I pretended to be beat. Then as she started to walk away I pounced at her, but somehow she knew what was coming and swiped me across the eye. Mufasa came down to punish her for it, but then she blamed me and I was left to go hungry.

At least it would've shown that they had thought about it, not just blurted some quick mumbo-jumbo that they heard somehwere else.
