The music is really strong so it works really well with the movie, and flutes are the best insturment for sad songs, seriously they are XD. Reach for the light has that cool wind blwing and flute echo intro really sets the mood for me, and the piano is beatiful. o.O im listening to it right now...

I don't agree, the best instruments for a sad music are piano and violin in my opinion. And there are those instruments in Balto soundtrack, like in The Heritage of the Wolf.

Well your opinion, but violin to me is the stereotype of sad music instrument, flute can be so much more powerful because one has such a pure bare voice, violins are much better being accompained by other violins. I can agree about violins or flutes being good at sad songs, but piano? I have never heard a piano song intended to be sad that actuallly made me sad, reach for the ligth was a bit more solemn than sad.

Really? There are a lot of sad piano musics. For exemple, the Pearl Harbor soundtrack.

I think he means that 'specially intended' sad songs on piano haven't made him sad.

I thought the end of Balto was happy sad. It doesn't make me feel sad all day though. In fact, I think it's more happy than sad. But, we all have our own opinions and feelings.

I think it's kinda like this with me: The song Reach for the Light makes me happy, but when it's mixed with the ending of the movie, it's a happy-sad feeling. It's a good feeling though! I never cry at the end of movies (and I gonna be ambitous enough to admit that the first time I watched Gladiator, the ending left a tear in my eye. Can you believe that!? I'm not supposed to cry! I'm 15 years old, and I'm not a girl, so I'm not supposed to! But alas, just once I did)

Well, in classical music only, violin is the best at making sad music, if you count foreign or more tibal, fol music, the flute is the best.

Violin and flute are. Flute accompainies mountains and baltoish land better though. And piano- tons of sad music. Piano works great.
