Mohammed and I have had to deal with this for around eight months now so I feel that I need to explain... I've been investigatin' this for a while, so bear with me.
Around my time (10+ GMT, Melbourne), it's about 5-9PM. The Australasians are having a night on the compy, as one does around here. The North Americans are all asleep, it's around 12-6AM across all timezones during this time period leaning towards 2-4AM for a lot of the members here. Not good hours for staying up. As for our Europeans, it's generally around 9AM-2PM - not really hours one spends on the computer.
Leaning towards the 7PM-9PM half... there's a definite problem. More offences are committed then than in any other time period I've seen when the North Americans and Europeans are actually online.
From what I've learnt from them talking amongst themselves, it's a group of British kids alledgedly from a private school that go on the computers during lunchtimes or on the weekends just hang around. It'd be about 7AM-11AM for them. The US mods are fast asleep, and the Europeans doing morning duties or off to school usually.
These are repeat offenders, not your average visit-one-time spammers. They've managed to get around the bannings with static IPs and/or proxies as far as I've seen. Internet-savvyness at it's negativity. Once told they're reported, recently they've taken the habit of doing a runner.
"Is it so hard to report a mod", you say? Well, Mohammed and I have done so several times. On average it takes 45 minutes for a mod to get there - that's if one even arrives to deal with it quickly.
Proof that they're the same, you ask. Okay... well. Considering they like to use the term "slags" (definitely not an Australasian term, don't even know what it means) and call everyone "gay" (the "gay" meaning stupid/uncool not homosexual) and act all snobby and snooty and swear at and insult generally whoever tends to come along, yeah, I think they're the same ones.
The solution? It's not more US mods. They're fast asleep. It's not more European mods, although it would help, although often they just get there too late. It's not more mods staying up to moderate the SB, that's adding far too much stress than they already have. It's Australasian mods. There's currently none of them. They are awake in the perfect time to nab these guys whenever they pop up like daisies. We can't keep on turning a blind eye on this and saying "you could just report them" or "we can't stay up late" or "we don't need more mods". We DO need more mods, that's becoming ever-so-apparent and there's no use denying it anymore. We DON'T need more mods staying up late - that's just silly... and we CAN'T use the reporting excuse. They ARE reported almost EVERY TIME. It's not our fault when it takes ages for them to get there and it's not our fault when they keep finding ways around bans.
It's 4:34PM now... I think I might hang around to collect some more logs if they come around again. And they come pretty often.

It's not the banning system that's the problem here. As Cobalt said above me, Australian mods would have been great. If they are active in the dead-time the other moderators have been sleeping, we'd have a 24/7 guard here on BS.
Either way, you can't blame the moderators or the banning system on this. The banning system - while being far from perfect - is good enough to keep you banned. However, proxies would not have worked had it not been for the browsers themselves. I can reveal that the banning system - even if you try to ******* - still has a name ban on your account, and will therefore keep you logged in and still banned. However, there was ways to bypass this because there is no REAL way of prevent someone's access to a website (and sadly, the browsers ruin this, not the banning system), and a ban is just a temporary solution.
You shouldn't blame anyone or anything on BaltoSource regarding the trolls being able to avoid the banning system. You should blame the companies that made the browsers. I doubt there is a way I can explain how the banning system really works without revealing how you can break out of it, but I hope what I've said above makes sense.
In any case, we do need moderators from a country/region where it is day and not night when the european and american moderators are asleep.

JerseyCaptain wrote: I have to admit, that's impressive. I should point out that I agree with a lot of those suggestions (and they reinforce ones I've made). Er...as to my own comments on the banning system, I should reclarify that I only was repeating rumors and complaints that I had heard generally...that the ban system is not working properly. And if it is, then great! Let's find a way around the static I.P. issue, or whatever other trick they're using, and nail these trolls! Lux, you're particularly savvy in that arena, aren't you? We need an ace from up your sleeve. lol Yeah, I'm working on it (although Steet needs to make the necessary changes as I've no idea of what coding he is using for his banning system). As soon as I have a possible solution, we'll see if Steet can get it to work with BaltoSource. And the rumours about the banning system not working properly is both false and true; as I said in my other post, the banning system works like intended, but is far from perfect. The problem about the ******* issue that's occurred lately, is that it is much too easy to use. If you google it, you can find thousands of free websites that changes your IP if you go to a link through their engines. This makes it near-impossible to do an effective ban. Although it wouldn't necessarily be a problem, had not the browsers worked as they are.

I have not learnt anything... I shouldn't go on during school times? Well, 7v1 i think i am slightly out number'd in kids. And no it is PUBLIC, not private, in our form. Ourteacher is a ICT one, so we get to use the computers during Lunch Time registration. However, i did not leed them to the shoutbox, they worked it out mostly all themselves. I show'd 1 PERSON. Thats it ONE, but like always somone gose around and looks at your monitor. And than the problem starts...

Ambersilver wrote: Sheesh, I can't beleive that people are doing this in the SB (I don't go there often,). I think that the mods are trying to do the best as they can to moderate the SB; people are on there constantly. But I also think that they should learn to read the site rules and respect them.......in my perspective. If you noticed we've have been consistently telling them to quit doing it as "It's against the Rules" but they did not listen and carried on. So clearly this was a motive to irritate us and take advantage knowing no mod is there

Jesus. N00Bs these days! So immature... Quote: Amber...do you really think kids like that are going to care one iota about reading and respecting the rules? Come on...you know how kids are! Actually I'm only thirteen and I care.

True dat.
