Very interesting topic. I do believe experience and ability play an important role in the appearance of art. The age at which someone really starts to understand and enjoy art may come sooner for that person than for someone else. When you compare my drawings to say Pamples(a very big contrast) you can see how this plays out. I am her age, but my natural talent is not as great as hers is. I have been drawing for the same amount of time ,but I haven't worked with photoshop near as much. I also haven't been to art school for any formal training in forms and drawing. Plainly put we are the same age but her skills far outcede mine. Each different situation has a different ending. Some people do have more natural talent than others ,but with hard work and perseverance someone who truly wants to draw well can learn to excel. I am not a gifted artist ,but I love what I do and am slowly learning to improve my anatomy and coloring skills. I will willingly admit to the fact that other art is superior to mine...I have seen many other young artists ( Deni for one =) who have amazing and exceptional skills that thouroughly kick my arts butt. It shames me not to admit it. I love my art ,but its not my lifes pursuit to become great at it. I still can enjoy seeing other people who have amazing talent and ability. So I think age doesn't really matter. Your natural talent, determination, and experience are what molds your art. Huge post ,but this was such a good topic I couldn't resist.

Well one's skill in art usually grows overtime and I think we can all agree it be completely unfair for a twelve year old to compete with a twenty four year old artist. However I have seen several cases where young artists are so talented even those who are decades older than them can not hold a candle to their skills. It really depends on the skill of an artist not their age, although in most cases older more experianced artist are most likely the more talented ones.

It depends on your talent and on how much time you spent doodling. xD I know quite a few younger people than I am which can draw a lot better. And of course the opposite - older ones that draw worse.

Practice plays a major role, of course. I'm not gonna rant on a about what people have already said, because they're absolutely right.
I'm twelve, and I found a drawing of a beach scene that I drew when I was 5 or six or something. I was going to throw it out but my mum wanted to keep it because this cartoon dog that was on there.
It was a very badly drawn dog - yet it had SO much character. It had big, googly eyes, a big, sticky-out dot for a nose, and basically a body and legs that were blocks. But it's probably more character than I could fit in my Fursona. (which I'm working on).
A talented five year-old can draw a great cartoon dog (I'm not saying mine was great BTW), a talented fifteen year-old can draw a great balto-style wolf and a talented 30 year old can draw a great, ultra-detailed forest scene with a realistic wolf in the background.
Well at least that's what people expect when they hear "talented" for those certain ages.
I'm not even sure what I'm trying to get to here. But perhaps it depends WHAT you're drawing. The five year-old is probably more sensitive to what the family dog is thinking than the thirty year-old, and thus can show more character when drawing him.
Age counts more WHAT you draw than HOW you draw. Mainly because of what you're EXPECTED to draw, even if you don't like to.

No, I do not believe age matters when it comes to drawing. It depends on how much practice you have; not the age. If art isn't you're thing; when you're thirty your art may seem like it was done by a five year old or something. Age doesn't matter; it's how much practice, and experience you have in art.

Ambersilver wrote: My point is, if you WANT to draw/paint, and you really wanted to grow up to be like Deni or Pample, you should visualize yourself as a famous artist. Digital or not, and practice, practice, PRACTICE and you'll reach your dream. That's my belief. I agree with Ambersilver. My mum and dad don't draw much, and they're not very good at it. I started drawing horses when I was about seven, and after a few years I moved on to lions and dogs. Now I mainly draw dogs and wolves. I inspired my sisters to try drawing Balto characters too, but they didn't think that their drawings were very good. And I'm only eleven, so I think I'm quite gifted at drawing and painting.

It's liek everyone's been saying, it depends on how long you've been drawing and how much you draw. For example, I've improved a lot in just a few months. Here's what I mean by that:
