In English class at my university, a pitbull lover (a classmate named Gary) gave a speech on pitbulls and the same things you discussed. He showed us a video on Youtube called "The Great American Pit Bull" and also one of a kid bothering a sleeping pit and it not doing anything back. My professor jokingly asked if the pitbull was drugged or something. The whole speech made quite an impact.

Not on me though. I already have no prejudice on the breeds. It's a pretty popular breed where I live. Their owners have trouble preventing them from trying to play with passers-by while they're on walks :P

It's good to hear that from people. ^^

Does your classmate own a Pittbull or not? Sorry, just curious.

Yeah, he does. That's what inspired him to do his presentation.

The thing some people can't seem to get through their heads is that Pittbulls were originally bred to fight dogs, not people dogs. They were specifically trained\bred NOT to bite people in order to pull the dogs apart from each other when the owners have decided the fight is over. So, yeah, Pittbulls were originally trained\bred not to bite people but, dogs.

Actually, most people don't know this but "Pitbulls" were orginally bred for babysitting children hence thier high pain intolerance...it's a hidden truth whether you believe it or not. How many people that own these dogs have you heard say, "They are awesome with my kids." or sound something like that. It's because that was thier original purpose but humanity took that and used it for evil and cruel purposes.

Now a thing about pitbulls behavior of biting and fighting being "bred" into them is not true. All dogs have a aggression, every breed has the same agression in them. Now what pits do is a trained behavior. By how the people train the dog, they can make it afraid of everrything so they attack out of self defense and it's rewarded so the dog does what it's rewarded for.

On the news you'll see PIT BULL ATTACK but you'll never see any other breed more than the pit, there are many other attacks but why don't they put them on local broadcast? Because it doesn't sell...Pit Bulls having a bad rep because of the way people use them for some odd reason give a face to the whole breed...

Another thing people do is act like racists againsts breeds (I call them breedists) You all have probably heard the saying "Ban the deed not the breed" and it's true..and it's actually not the dogs fault at all. Look at it this way, many people blame guns for violence..so a gun would go out alone and just shoot? No it does what the person wants it to do and such is the way with fighting dogs. It's not thier fault they act aggressively scared. It's how the people raise them.

I did a work study program on dog behavior and training for about 3 years and our company had a saying that went "Blame the human, never the dog" most of the dogs behavior is human related...

I hope I got my point across

totally agree with some of your facts?? but babysitting i hear but maybe proof saying that they did, did so?? like a link or several links.. it's basically the same with rotties, dobbies, and all these so called "bullies" ... they are truely gentle dogs i have not yet met one !! vicious pit bull well the fact i work at an SPCA doesn't really help cuz they're always soo abused and some can't get help we sometimes get some professionals and the ODD time Ceaser Melan (if you've heard of him or watched his shows you are awesome!! and if you haven't well.. watch it :P on National Geographic) ... anyways but ye we get many cases of abused, neglected and vicious and some not curable .. even the nice breeds like goldens, labs, and so on lol can't think since it's 4 am here XD .. (was going of topic i know) .. but ye.. i have been on many sites saying husky attacks, golden kills small dog, 3 dalmatians (i think it's dalmatians) attack women and poodle but you get the point... if you want any links please ask.. and Beta i loved that your friend did this was very great we need people like that to join against the BSL, like i and many of us co-workers need a lot... i mean A LOT of people to help us stop this..

What JC said, really. Pitbulls were bred for fighting, originally, but their ancestors (Bulldogs and terriers) were not (if I recall).

I don't have the time to formulate a page-long (or two) answer at the moment, but I will quite soon.

I think I'll leave this topic for those who like to debate...I put in my two cents and I won't waste my time on arguing over something that has gone in circles in and out of this thread.

I say to each to his own..this is just a topic that will go on argued forever...

I expected as much. So be it. The way I see it, it has mostly been an interesting debate. But you cannot expect people to take you seriously if you back out of a debate with the excuse "I've spoken my peace". You were given an opening to defend your reasoning. However, I cannot deny that it is your right to bow out. I just think it strengthens my points (and again, I have substantial and reliable research to back them up...which I referenced).

I just don't see a point in putting back up now since it would go on forever anyways. I apologize for wasting your time

I've heard reports of Chihuahua's attacking people... Because they got angry and proproken. It jumped up and bit somone. As anyone who is interest in dogs would know Chihauhau's are very, very little dogs. So would it hurt if one bit you? It will hurt, but they're not going to kill you noiw are they? Chihauhaus were breed as companion, anoying thing is the way so many people but them as "acsessirios"

Moving on to Pitbulls. People also buy pitbulls to look "cool" or "dangorous" Do people but Chuhauhau's to stand up to fight? I thnik not, who disgusting enough to pick fightsusing thier dogs would get a Chihuahua to do it for them? Pitbulls were orignally breed to fight. They are large, powerfull and somwhat dangurouys dogs. People take this for granted and but one in hopes of it "Protecting them"

I have seen people try and order thier dogs to attack others. Most of the time the dogs just run off and lay down, in other cases they do attack other people.

Dogs have minds, they can think and feel. They do not see things exactly the same of us. For all they know, attack others may be some sort of "Trick" they get a "treat for" Treat them with respect, and they're more likely to become relaxed pets. Treat them crully and angerly, then they are more likey to turn.

I would not suggest a pitbull as a first time pet/compainion, because they can be dangoress and aggresive, and usually have fighting blood in them. If you own a pitbull that is aggresive do NOT try and home train it. See an expert. To many people think that they are expert traniers for owning a pet, and try complex methods seen on certain TV programs and such that usually result in them getting injured/killed.

well Fire_Paw i haven't done much searches on chihuahuas but i've seen many nippy and agressful little ones but i've also seen timid and frightened ones too and them biting you i'm not sure if it hurts but it probably would since i've never bit by one i wouldn't know hehe just taking a wild guess. and for the Pit bulls well they were bred to fight after someone or w.e figured that pit bulls had "locked jaws" (not actually jaws locking but i shall explain) for people who aren't sure what it is a lock jaw is when the dog grabs a hold of something and absolutely WONT LET GO ! .. not exactly locking but the pit bulls jaw muscles are really big and were meant to heard bulls so these small little ones would have to be brave and courageous to stand off these big guys. and their powerful jaw muscles and their courage and their some what bulky look was what they looked for.

now i'll say this another time .. and i feel i have to post this in all my replies that i work and i study dogs and people who know all of this and again i work at an SPCA so i have to study and learn about each dog i can find i'm not a professional i just get my facts and what abouts from professionals hopefully someone gets this but ye moving on -.-'

People teaching their dog to attack i've only seen small cases like this so i can't really answer anything to this but some people learn a way to make their dog attack people by sometimes going to police dog facilities and just watching the dogs in training and think "oh hey kl i'll teach my dog that" or people figure out their own way to teach them. Dogs indeed have feelings and they do have a mind of their own but they gave themselves up to us so they depend on us to teach them right from wrong and attacking is indeed a "trick" and a "treat or praise" method for them thats how they learn. ( if i could i'd post some facts about how they train their "fighting" dogs but posting so would probably lock this due to the sound of it makes you sick unless you hate pit bulls then not sure p.m if you do want to hear so but these are just hear abouts of what they do)

for the not the first time companion ?? not sure about that. See pit bulls have breeders who take care of their dogs and foolish a-holes buy them but i know an old friend who her first pet was a pit bull and that dog is great (funny fact her name is Angel) but hey that is your opinion but pit bulls from good line breeders are a good choice if you do want one as a first pet but do your re-search well. and fighting blood well.. that would be from some gangster selling them or someone irresponsible. and for as the TV programs yes seek a professional or take advice from the Dog Whisperer which his methods ARE AMAZING and he has 7 pit bulls who are well trained and stay in the same pen..

i suggest everyone to try to watch that show you learn a lot from him and he is a nice guy and his passion are dogs he sells the dogs they are fixed and well mannered but he'll be judging saying if you get the dog or not cuz he rescues these dogs and finds them a home. His name is Ceasar Milan on the show National Geographic you can search him and such you can call him he lives in L.A California (if i'm right) and here is his site http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/ sorry for off topic but it had to be said.

a pit bull topic on his site read http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/packprofi ... pepito.php

http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/packprofi ... _daddy.php < read immediately :D
