A tear fell down Fang's face, he couldn't bare hearing Dusty cry, she and the sled team were the closest thing he had to a real family. The might have Diptheria? But can't that be...can't that be fatal? he thought, feeling his heart be crushed. "Kodi, do you want to go check on Katie? I know seeing her wouldn't be the best thing for your heart but I think it would give her hope to see and I think she needs that a lot right now." he said, tears running down his face.
Balto nodded. "I wouldn't have it any other way, besides there doesn't seem much choice in the matter, all the purebreds in town but you are sick, I'm very glad your not sick but I wonder what's protecting you." he said.
Lena felt guilty she'd caused her brother to cry, she was silent but followed Kai.
Cachen returned his sister's embrace and cried on her shoulder. "I can't help it, I miss momma so much and I'm so worried...is your heart supposed to hurt?" he asked, his heart aching for his mother.

Kodi looked at his friend, knowing how Steele had disowned him, just for being who he was...All more a reason to hate him. He felt a pang of despair, wondering silently if there was a cure. At Fang's sugestion, Kodi knew he'd have to let his curiosity be unsatisfied for now. "You're right, let's...." he took a quivering breath "Go see Katie." he turned, beginning to walk out.
Jenna nodded, before thinking about it. "I..don't know why...maybe because of my..." she blushed, not really say she was getting old. "...Maturity..."
Kai gave a soft exhale of breath. "We're going to see Mum." he murmured, trying not to faulter.
Tai nodded, nuzzling her brother tenderly. "Yea..it's normal...when you really care about someone, you feel so pained your heart hurts. I feel it too."

"Wait, there not going to let us in her room, she's in quritine, even if we're immune they don't know that, let's find the grill under her room." said Fang, leading the way from grill to grill. He finally found Katie. "Katie, its Fang and Kodi." he called out to her.
Balto shook his head. "Nah, can't be, old Doc is sick and he's older than us." he said.
"I think that will help her, she needs to see someone that loves her." said Lena.
Cachen looked into his sister's eyes, tears running from his. "We really love momma then...I feel so helpless..." he said, still crying.

Kodi nodded, turning around. He looked up, able to see his love's silvery grey fur shimmer in the florescent lighting. His ears turned up and he watched for any movement.
Katie's eyes slowly came open, shakily picking up her top half. "Nnngh, Fang....?" she gave a wry, sickly smile. "Then...I'm not going crazy." she tried to laugh, ending up coughing instead.
Jenna gasped, ears lowered. "Oh, not Doc. I haven't seen him in a while, I didn't even know." all these dogs she knew, were sick, and possibly...Jenna couldn't even think about that.
Kai nodded, eyes half closed. "You're right, plus." he gave a smirk. "Gives you achance to be with your boyfriend right?" he chuckled.
Tai looked into her brother's eyes. "Cachen, it's ok. We all feel helpless right now." she licked his cheek.

Fang nodded, tears going down his face. Katie was like a sister to him, who knew, maybe they really were realted somehow, he didn't know who his mother was. "I brought Kodi, I thought you needed to see him, you know to give you hope." he said. He looked at Kodi. "Come on, I'll give you a boost." said Fang, getting down low to the ground. "Don't worry, I'm part malmute, I have a tough body." Fang shuddered as he heard a dog he was certain to be Dusty moan in pain and go into a loud and probably agonizing coughing fit. My spirit on the other paw can't take much more of this.
Balto nodded grimmly. "Yeah, got it about the same time as Katie. Nikki, Star, and Kaltag have it too, in fact Kodi, Fang, and me are the only sled dogs not sick." he said, feeling bad so many of his good friends were deathly ill. "What about Dixie and Silvie? Any word on them?"
Lena blushed. "It just a silly crush." she said.
"I just...I just want to do something. Why did this happen to our momma? What did she do to deserve this?" asked Cachen, still crying and unable to grasp what was happening. Please don't die momma...please don't die... he thought. "Its not fair...its not fair..." he said, mornfully and so faintly that Tai would barely be able to hear his words as he sobbed on her shoulder.

Kodi nodded, bringing his torso up. "Yea; you're skull one of those thick bones??" he asked jokingly, trying to smooth over the pain. Finally able to get up onto the floor, he looked over his mate, the beautiful creature that layed in a bed nearby.
Katie's eyes were clouded over in pain, yet she smiled. As thin as it was, it stilled seemed so caring, and so happy. Kodi had remembered the last time she had looked so weak, and tired. It was when she had given birth to their pups. That smile brought just an immense light to the already fire warmed and lit boiler room.
"Hey," Kodi murmured, trotting over slowly.
"Hello, Kodi." Katie said just as soft, but that amazing enurance of hers kept the smile on her face.
Jenna nodded, eyes closed as she tried not to think about her two friends. "Both are ill, and it's spread over Dixie much faster. I used to think it'd be heaven not to hear her voice so loud; now I just want it back." she pressed her face into Balto's shoulder, unable to hold back a few tears.
Kai nodded, rolling his eyes. "Riight.." he said with a chuckle. "Then what was that moaning for him from last night?" he asked, fluttering his eyes playfully.
Tai nodded, unable to keep her own tears locked up. Sparkling wet tearmarks stained her cream colored cheeks before long. "I know, Cachen, I know.." she murmured, curlign around her little brother. "It's not fair."(*big sad puppy eyes* Oh my Gawd this is so sad!!!)

Fang forced his way onto the floor as well, he didn't need a boost to get up, despite being the same age, he was a larger breed. He looked at poor Katie, crying a little. "Katie...you know you're like a sister to me, right?" he asked in a pained voice.
Balto nodded. "I know...I'm just so happy I can still hear yours." he said before noticing the crying pups. "Jenna, look..." he said, feeling so sad for the little pups.
Lena blushed. "That's not what matters now..." she said.
Cachen couldn't stop crying. "...I'm glad you're alright though sis." he finally said.
OOC: I know, but that shows we're doing good at it.

Katie looked at Fang with a light smile. "Fang...what's the need to cry? Come on." she stood on terribly shaky limbs. "Come here, then." she sat herself down, wrapping a paw about him. "No reason for my brother to cry, is there?"
Jenna smiled lightly, a few tears making their descent as her head came up, looking to her two grandchildren. "Poor babies..." she blinked. "I'm either senial, or were there four?" she asked,
Kai laughed. "Now it's not important. Call me when you need to mop up your drool." he grinned.
Tai nodded, giving a light smile. "I'm glad you're safe too, bro." she licked Cachen's head lightly.
OOC: I know, but...Sooo sad!!

Fang couldn't help but smile. "You're so strong Katie." he said. He knew Katie was in terrible pain, he'd heard her crys, heck he could even hear her wheezing from the swollen throat but still she was stayed strong. He looked at Kodi. "You made a good choice bud...do you want to tell her what we heard the vet and the musher talking about...?" he asked, think it would be best for Kodi to tell his mate.
Balto nodded. "Yes, the others went to go check on their mother, I think its for the best." he said. "Katie needs to be with her loved ones, right now lets deal with cheering theses two pups up alright?" he asked.
Lena glared. "What's importent right now...is that our mother is sick." she said, clearly upset.
Cachen nuzzled her, still crying. "But still...what if...what if...?" he couldn't get the dreaded words out and burst into crying again.

Katie chuckled lightly, her throat was in utter agony, but she ouldn't stand to see Fang cry. "Huh?' she tilted her head gently. She was a bit confused at his last statement. "What..are you talking about?"
Jenna nodded, looking at her two youngest grandchildren. "You're right..." she murmured, with a light smile. "You're almost always right."
Kai glanced back. "Hey, I'm not gonna start crying. Why not make a bit of fun at my sweet little sister?"
Tai nuzzled him lightly. "Oh come on. Forget about if...forget about it. Momma's gonna come out okay in the end." she smiled.

Fang sighed, pain obvious in his face. His sled team and Kodi's family was the only ones that trusted him, that he cared about and half of them could be gone if the Diptheria or whatever it was wasn't stopped. He couldn't stand that Katie was in pain, that a few rooms over Dusty and those poor puppies were in the very same agony, that probably Ralph and Kirby were in the same pain somewhere. "I think its best for Kodi to tell you, he is your mate after all...I will tell you though, from the looks of things, your pups won't be affected by this sickness." he said with a mix of joy that those pups wouldn't get sick and sorrow that they might lose their mother.
"Come on Jenna, lets go talk to them." said Balto, getting up.
Lena nodded. "I guess, I'm just...I'm just so afriad for mom." she said, upset.
Cachen kept crying, he knew his mother was in pain and he couldn't handle that. "I'm scared for her Tai...I'm so worried..." he said, his heart aching.

Katie blinked, before a smile went over her face. "It's about the sickness isn't it? Listen," she chuckled sorely, her throat only allowing a light sound. "Look, I'm so happy you're worried for me. But, it's just a flu, I'll..." she gave a light cringe, "I'll be fine." she lied, trying to tensen her trembling legs.
"Katie." Kodi said, sitting down. "We checked with the doctor...The same disease you have, is infecting all the purbreds in town. It's...it's like Diptheria or something. Even the older dogs are getting, and pups.." he hated to say it, but he had, and his heart wrenched.[color]
[color=#BF40FF]Jenna nodded, getting up. "Alright." she said softly, wiping any traces of tears away.
Kai nodded, looking up. "I'm scared too. I don't want anythign to happen to Mom anymore than you do." he was breathing deeply.
Tai nuzzled Cachen softly. "It's okay, Cachen, we're all scared..." her own heart ached. But her little brother was in more pain than her it seemed.

Fang nodded grimly. "Yes, that's what they said." he said, his heart aching. "I'm not sure but from what I've heard, Diptheria is a terrible thing, if not for Balto, all the kids in town would of died with it." he said.
Balto started over to the pups. "You talk to Cachen, I'll talk to Tai, okay?" he asked.
Lena nodded. She looked around. "Where are all the dogs?" he asked.
Cachen was so frightened, he was always close to Katie, he loved snuggling against her, smelling her, just knowing she was there made him so happy but now, something terrible was happening to her and he was helpless, that tore him up inside and he couldn't stop crying.

Katie's eyes widened, head turned back to her mate. The color drained from her face, and she started to crumple to the ground. Her head turned down and tears hit the hard floor. Her children, they were safe...but...what if? It was almost now, as if she could feel her pups' pain. "Cachen..." she murmured. Kodi could only come up and put a paw across her back gently.
Jenna nodded, looking to Tai and Cachen. Her heart started to almost wither at the sight. "Alright," she said.
Kai sighed. "They're all quarantined, Lena." he looked around, feeling so very empty inside.
Tai nodded, sensing her brother's pain. Her paw rubbed against the tawny fur, trying to comfort Cachen as much as she could. It probably wasn't goign to fill Katie's place, but it was worth trying.

Fang looked down, feeling so bad for Katie, he knew her mind was on her pups. He had a very good relationship with the pups, he cared for them very much, he kind of thought of them as his nieces and nephews, Cachen even called him uncle some times. He didn't want to think of what would happen if their momma didn't come home. He thought of something. "Don't give up hope...Katie you can't give up hope." he said, a serious tone in his voice. "Diptheria was stopped in this town once, I'm sure they'll find a way to do it again, in all likely hood now that they know what they're dealing with they'll get some antitoxin in for it, just don't let this beat you." he said, trying to give Katie hope.
Balto walked up to Tai and nuzzled her lovingly. "Tai what's amatter?" he asked, even if he already knew.
Cachen looked up a Jenna, his eyes full of tears. "Grandma, is momma gonna be alright?" he asked, so sad.
