Wow, wow...Didn't think that this would be such a polemic.

This is not really for reducing the number of spams...This is to keep people at the same level. I don't think that the messages posted in the "games" or even "roleplay" section can be counted the same as the others. I mean, the number of posts doesn't mean anything anymore here...
If you want a good indication of how long someone have been on the forums, there is the registration date...
NO, this wouldn't change the star system.
NO, this wouldn't remove the number of posts, you could still see it in your profile, the member list etc... But only not on the topics.

Quote:
EDIT: Steet, if you're having problems; elect some more Moderators to sort out the posts like you did with the comments on the site! You've only got four for the ENTIRE forum!

Strange, some people tell me that, and some others say that there are already too many mods...

Quote:
My opinion: you could remove that from the post view page, but i think is good keep it at memebers page just for we have the possibility to see that info.

This is exactly what I already said...

Quote:
Steet, if you don't want any useless post, just close the forums... Of all the forum I visit, this is the one of the best for the spam. If someone said "shut up I have 300 posts more than you", remove the display COULD be a useful idea, but remove it in this board would be very useless. At least, a stronger moderaton (which is already strict).

"The best for the spam"? Do you mean that there are lots of spams or the contrary?
And, about being strict...I always give warnings, I never banned anyone. (except two temporaly bans) So I don't think it's that strict.

In fact there are too many.

Well that's your opinion...but anyway, it's better too many than not enough. At least we'll be prepared, considering the constant growth of the site in number of visitors...

I've thought about that, but that seems difficult. I didn't create the forums...I don't even know if it's possible.

Anyway, all the most serious sites I know, doesn't show the number of posts. I think it's for good reasons...

As it is known I am totaly up with this idea.

Put these questions.

What is the advantage of seeing other number of posts? To start compete? To start race and spam the forums? Somebody said that each week he want's to reach x ammount of posts. Why? Forums is not a job. Forum is for when you have something to say.
Why people must read spam so they can reach vital and interesting information only because some people likes to see their big numbers.

This is impossible Togo. At least not unless the source is heavely modified and the person in cause have the heavy knowledge of php-ql. And why would somebody work horus for only such a thing?

What are the advantages for removing the number of posts?
-People won't start racing creating usless ammount of posts only because he want's to be more cool than person 'y' and other people need to swim throught spam to reach information that delight them.
-Forums is not mirc. If you want to discuss stuff, steet created a shout box as far as I seen.
-What is the use of displaying number of posts? Making yourself thinking that you are an important person since you have 1k+ posts? A person is important by the way he writes and thinks, not by the numbers, creating usless posts and boring people while they try to reach the information that the title of the thread should offer.

Actualy there are never to many or too few. The optimal number shall be impossible to maintain because 'n' factors, including real life, influx of visitors, etc.

I have seen, people that keep in very simple and write only to contribuite to the well being of this forum as for information and enjoyment. But I have seen also many people that are writing only because they want to create the impression they contribuite to the forums, and to think and be thinked that they are cool.

All these are a fact, as I have seen in many forums that I currently operate and contribute, some of them even helping operating, all of them having different objectives.

I totaly agree with Flash.
If i would have a daily objective to reach X post count then i would consider myself a spammer because too many posts cause the effect called boredom, so quality or supjectivity might get lower.

It will greately reduce the spam.
And here the problem is only certain persons that are spamming for posts, not everybody. These are just aproximately 10%-15% of the users.

But you know that word? "In a beautifful garden, if you let the bushes and dead plants, it will soon corrupt the hole garden".

Also you say there are to many mods. Well I see countless posts that are off-topic, or have no sence and are there just for the love of it. What are the mods exactely doing?

Do you really think that I don't care about the post count at all? I like to see my counter growing, but have you ever seen a spam post by me? I don't think so, that's because I don't like spamming, and I don't even post in the Games section.

If you care about the post count only for yourself, then it's not a problem since I will remove the display only on the topics. The important thing is that some people like to post many messages, not for themselves like you (to know how many they posted in a day for example) but for showing to everyone that they have a big number.
Quote:
Also, if you only hide the counter in the posts, a spammer would still spam, because there's the counter, it's just in the profile.

I don't think so. Very few people go into the profiles, unless it's someone they want to contact or interested to know better...

Well it depends on what is your definition of an off-topic or no sense...Everyone make off topics, me included, it's something really difficult to prevent. That's why in the rules, I only say "try" to keep on the subject, "avoid" the offtopics.
Also, there were sections that we didn't check enough, that's why I asked for specific mods to these sections.

I have na idea which may seem a little...eh.

When you catch someone spamming, warn them...strike one

When you catch them spamming again, ban for 3 days....strike two

When they dont cease and desist....ban for ip for life, no ifs ands or butts.

just an idea, radical, but it can work. You do give them ample opportunity to rectify their postition

Lets try to calm down people and think a little (more) ...
Of course people that have +500 or +1000 posts wont agree with this so its normal for them to say no.
But if they think a little they wont like me if i post +200 reply's to their topics with only "nice" or post each time in the over 5-15 forum games the games that are there i can assure everybody that in max 2-3 days i have over 200 300 posts in + so from my spot 42 as poster i can get 20 spots better without any piece of thinking.
And if people say it isnt possible i can tell them to try to avoid making me prove it because i might do it!

Yes, I really think some people just hang out in the games section just to up their posts. it's not right that people 2or 3 days new have over 500 posts because they see it as a game
