From what I understand "Emo" is a type of music that's "evolved" into a style of clothing and such, one of my friends frequently says that to people saying "I'm emo!!".

I agree, Nava. I don't think anyone should have the word "emo" in thier username. Its kind of dumb too.

In ways i can agree with Nava but some i am not to sure about. People here are missunderstanding the word 'emo' its like "Oh lets add Emo into our name it makes are so cool" >.> Wrong! Emo is short for emotional as said by 3DGWolf and can have any emotional feeling not just deppression and so on. Now i can understand both sides of this argument but from my point of view and understanding of what others are classing 'Emo' as now these days it is just to make them think they are the best, big and cool. Quote: so your calling my best friend dumb? well if kids see that, they see that! Dont jump to far Tani and just accus something for something that they haven'y even said ok? It rather annoying and in the end you have said something wrong. Never jump to concultions. Yet you say "well if kids see that, they see that!" In the long tearm this will cause problems, them ending up thinking that emo (In the way many are thinking of it now) is a good thing when its not. Now i am not going against anyone as this is completely an opinion topic so dont go against me just because i have put my point of view forward.

I agree with you Nava, Aniu.
There's a difference between the emo style of music and the emo counter-culture - the emo counter-culture can be well, harmful. Yes, the world is a lot more depressing than it was 7 years ago, and no doubt that global depression is trickling down to the youth. And it's only compounding the depression and stress that every kid and teen face every day.
Now when individuals in either shout box or roleplay box start saying things like "I'm going to cut myself" - it can be really really disturbing. I've seen friends of these individuals get worried and also depressed - more or less, likely 'is my friend going to commit suicide'? That sort of behavior shouldn't be allowed - if someone says something to that effect, I believe a mod should get involved... Yes, sometimes it's annoying to deal with those who are depressed and whatnot on the shoutbox and roleplay box, but they probably need genuine help.
But yes, as to what you just said Nava, about ""I am emo now time to cut. Hey I am going to go stand in this corner and be all emo"" - it isn't just harmful attention seeking - it's belittling to real emos, that is if the person who says that isn't actually emo.
And no, I don't hate emo or emos either.
So perhaps instead of banning the term emo - ban the, well, suicidal sort of behavior. It gives us a "Cry Wolf" sort of attitude for when someone really really needs help.

I think this has strayed from the original suggestion.
Banning a member simplyfor having the word "emo" in a username is way too harsh, however, if a member is on the general shoutbox or RP box and saying things like "I want to die", "I'm going to cut myself", blah blah blah thne do plesae report it to us! That's classed as offensive talks because it does offend many people and they will be given a warning/ban.
The same goes for overly "emo" stuff in profiles. If it's just "I am emo" there's not much to it but if it's an image or text saying "I like to cut" or a pic of a razor blade with blood or "I am emo...I want to cut myself...I want to die" etc. AGAIN Report it! Offensive content again.
But I still think a ban of the word "emo" is way too excessive.

Umm...ok but your missing the point...we don't want to ban any one with the name EMO in it...we want it off there...Me and several others have agreed to it...Its just kinda dumb and stupid if you ask me...Aniu even said that its sitting a VERY bad examples....If you wanna know the truth...my mom jumped all over me for her seeing that word in to a profile AND username...maybe not the same for you guys...but its kinda just really retarded XD. Do you honestly think it's worth a BAN for someone who has a "dumb" or "retarded" username? 0_o

I still think it's a bit...what is the word..."harsh"...if you get my drift. "Emo" is a popular label these days and I can see many members arguing this as a rule. Maybe the misunderstanding of "emo" as cutting yourself and being depressed is bad, the supporting of a style of clothing or music is not, so how to identify the two seperately?
I really don't think this is the same as mate talks, it has a different "set up" to that argument which I won't go into again.
