I think the change in Jenna's attitude was perfectly natural. Granted, I'm no expert on parenthood (having never experienced it myself), and certainly not on motherhood, which I will never experience. But speaking from my limited qualifications, along with some degree of research, I think it only fitting that a woman (human or canine) become at least somewhat calmer when children are added to the equation. To give an example from what I have experienced, I'll put it this way. When I was a teenager, I tended to play pretty roughly with my little brother- sometimes, I admit, a lot rougher than I should have. However, when I started to think seriusly about relationships between myself and other people, and specifically about the chance that I might one day find the right woman to marry, I began to be more gentle as I almost subconsciously bagan to think during our wrestling matches, "If I had a son, would I play with him like this?" If even the serious consideration of parenthood could produce such a change, I think there's some reason to say that the actual event could be even moreso.

Just the same, for such original characters they need not-so-cliche parental attitudes.

The character of someone can change suddenly after important events, which is what happened to Jenna. But it's also true that, when a daugther is in danger, a mother like Jenna should have gone with Balto, considering that she didn't have any puppy to take care of. She wanted to, you will recall. But an intelligent person knows the time to act and te time to wait. Jenna certainly seems intelligent to me.

Jenna knew the time to go when Balto ran off and nearly got killed by a bear, Balto nearly slid off a cliff in this one, but Kodi had to be redeemed.

I'm nothing against Balto and Jenna having children, just how the children turned out And the sequels completely butchered Balto and Jenna's characters. Jenna, who was originally a very strong, clever character, becomes a mother and her brain turns to mush. harpier wrote: Not to mention that a decent mother would go after her son/daughter Exactly! Jenna just kinda sat there in both of the sequels, and she just mostly didn't care. What kind of a mother is that? Dragon Tamer wrote: I think it only fitting that a woman (human or canine) become at least somewhat calmer when children are added to the equation. True, but Jenna got worse. She only got more stressed, in my view

MOS wrote: I think you're right CarribbeaLady.I absolutly agree As a writer, I partly agree. Once a relationship, or even any manner of attraction is made official to any particular degree (as I once pointed out when discussing the popular Hunter/Colleen question on Road Rovers), it tends to kill off certain possibilities. I have often thought regarding my own fanfics that perhaps I should have been a little slower to have my characters, Toby and Luna, fall in love (or even reach adulthood, for that matter). That said, attraction and romance do open up options too. For example, in the case of my characters... well, I won't give anything away in case someone wants to read them and hasn't yet, so I'll use Balto and Jenna as an example. The last two movies, and likely any more that they might make (even if they probably won't) were built around the fact that Balto and Jenna had been in love in the first movie and (obviously) became more involved in the interum (or the space in between movies, in laymen's terms). Their parenthood has been the foundation of those movies, as well as about 90% of the fanfics about them in some way. It may seem like they've been ruined, but the truth is they've just progressed. To draw on another movie, consider Bambi. If he had stayed a frightened little fawn his whole life and not fought Ronno, Faline would have gotten stuck with that creep instead of with Bambi. Bambi's development of an attraction to Faline, along with his newfound boldness when Ronno made his appearance, was not by any stretch of the imagination "ruining" his personality. It was on the contrary a natural progression of his personality, and one vital to the movie on a couple of levels. I personally feel the same is true of Balto and Jenna. And on another note, how would you have done the next movie if not the way it was done?

Yeah. I agree! I prefer when they were more young. They even looked and sounded older (which is why I prefer the voices of Bridget Fonda and Kevin Bacon.) I personally don't think they should have become parents either or if the people who made the sequals really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really wanted to keep them as parents, I would prefer if they kept their younger looks, personalties, and voices. I think they especially killed Jenna because she was so young, fiesty, and feminine in the first movie. Maybe like a teenager or a young adult but in the second in third movies, she seemed so much older! If they make any more Balto movies (which we know is unlikely) I hope they use their younger personalties.

You know, they really should of thought of a better plot then ''find who you are'' thats lame. Shrek takes a while to make a movie. Why? cuz they take TIME on thier animations. Balto 2 and 3 was garbage. They totally killed the movie's reputation.
