It was merely a tap on the shoulders to another person with added humor which is rare on the interwebz these days (seriously guys, it was a joke and posted in the style of the Comic Book Guy for FUNNIZ), although I had nothing to contribute at that point, but now I do.

Yes, it's annoying. Take note, however, that these sorts of people rarely come to the forums, thus rarely read these rants, and therefore continue on their merry little way.

As for the first post; I agree. It is very annoying, although I haven't received such messages myself (mainly because my Sentinel auto-deletes PM's containing excessive useage of SMS)

But if this happens, make a screenshot of the PM you recieved, make sure it contains the username of the sender as well, preferrably unedited, upload the image and PM a mod with it.
Then we can take action accordingly.

I hate it when people use SMS on here, it hurts my brain trying to read it because half of it doesn't make any sense!

And I do get the same problem... I swear to God if I get another PM in my inbox that says "Hi" or "do u want 2 b my friend?" I will destroy this monitor... -_- I am sure, however, that many of those people who send messages like that don't really go to the forums and PM from the main site. Many of those people I've never seen once browse the forums, and are practically addicted to typing that way that I wonder how they're going to write their college essays...

yeah, SMS can be hard to understand, AND annoying.

You know, I've always asked myself that same question XD I always wonder if these people manage to do well in school because frankly, when you use SMS constantly, you must have some sort of brain defect. XD

Of course I think some limited SMS is fine. Little things such as :

G2G (Meaning got to go)
BRB (Meaning be right back)
BBL (Meaning be back later)
BBS (Meaning be back soon)
OMG (Meaning oh my God)

Also, I think some members have some problems with seeing the difference between abbreviations and SMS...

For example, someone in the shoutbox would say : "I love MCR !" (MCR stands for a band, My Chemical Romance)

Then, some other member would be like : "Oh my God ! No SMS !!!!!"

Abbreviations are not SMS.

I agree it's extremely annoying and brain wracking, but hey, hence the no SMS rule.



I agree some types of sms are sometimes allright, especially if one is in a busy discussion and must leave for a bit really fast. Better "brb" than nothing at all. But on a Balto site I doubt anyone would run out of time to be able to right out those three little words.

The band abbreviations, like you said, aren't SMS. The same goes for UN, NATO, EU... Hello... Any educated person knows what that is. It is by no means SMS. I haven't noticed too much of this, but it's caught my eye.
However, there are so many band names and so many members from different nationalities here that the person should actually write out the band name, atleast at the beginning of the conversation. Would be a lot easier for someone else to join in on the debate.

I can understand that some members don't know because of there are so many bands. Although, as you said with UN, NATO ect.. some people would consider it SMS. =S
