Sorry, perhaps posting the topic amongst the fans was a little harsh. rottentomato.gif I just wanted to see what others thought. I do not not not hate TLK.

I'm with steet, I think it is fine to debate on such matters, just so long as you consider other people's points of view. This should make an interesting discussion me thinks.

I disagree.

Everything about Balto is wonderful, and beats all the disney movies(Yes, that includes TLK) imo.

The animation is my favorite thing about it, aswell as the fact they had no songs until the end. And I don't see anything wrong with Steele's paws.

But.. I don't see it overrated. It's not overrated, it's underrated.

And don't go "I was right, they're mean to me because I started this topic! As I said on the other topic about the Lion King being over-rated." Because Canis Lupus handled that very maturely-- and she's 14.
=====
1. Oh my! Whatever shall we do! You hate the animation! Wow.. Just because Balto didn't have cool effects doesn't mean it sucks :?

Of course Aleu doesn't look like a dog, she's a wolf :icon302:

<sarcasm> Wow, a kids movie having an evil character that's not evil. What're the odds of that? </sarcasm>

Wow, what were they going to make star look like? A mouse?

What poodle?

Wow...just wow. Steele's paws looked like paws to me. I wonder why..OH! Maybe because they weren't giant paws like in the lion king, how they're intended to be. (HENCE THAT DOGS ARE SMALLER THAN LIONS)

2. So..Steele had to kill someone to "gain" his spot as evil? That sickens me.

3. It would be hard for Balto to be "real". Since that was in 1995, and it's almost 2008. And wouldn't it cost more money?

4. IT'S SPELT ALEU. A-L-E-U. And yes, she was an imitation of Kiara.

Dixie was okay :? I liked her. But hating for no reason is rather petty.

Star: How could he POSSIBLY be an imitation of The hyenas? Oh wow, he's goofy. That means he's an imitation of the hyenas. Oh, hey, I'm goofy too! Do you think I'm a rip off of the hyenas too??????

5. That's because Balto is then again BASED ON A TRUE STORY. It had to stick to the story line and not like (For example) "LETS SAVE ROSIE! We can do it! Yes we can!" LLOLOLOLOL

You don't need t o apologize, just get yer info right.

You took the words right out of my mouth, that's just what I was thinking too, I'm speechless. Why would anyone hate Dixie anyhow? But in what way was she an "imitation" of Kaira? They are both diffrent anyway. Aleu is Aleu and Kaira is Kaira. You know this is turning into a Balto vs. Lion King a friend of mine did the same thing except it was dog vs. cat. This is the exact same thing!!

Random Bunny--> Yeah I do think it beats all the Disney films too.

Somebody said Dixie was an imitation of Kiara? I thought it was only Aleu...

Okay, don't shout on me but I don't really like this movie. It's overrated in my opinion. And why?
1) I don't like the animation so- It is not AWSOME in my opinion: I don't like the designs of Dixie-Her paws don't even look like paws.
her friend-She doesn't look like a dog to me(I don't remember her name),
Alue-Her neck looks like a neck of a giraff.
the evil character in Balto 2(I don't remember his name)-He doesn't look so "evil" to me-His design reminds me of the boys in my school who don't come to the studies and smoke.
Star-Hie eyes are the size of plates..It looks creepy to me.
The little poodel- He doesn't look like a poodel to me. The scene where he jumped of fear made him looks like a jelly fish
Steel-His paws don't look like paws as well.
2) The villians are not good in my opinion-No offense, but they made me laugh. The evil character in Balto 2 behaves like one who wants attenion  ..He punced on Alue and on Balto and he had no reason. They did nothing to him. And steelemade me laugh because he is not villian enough for me. He didn't kill anyone. He just had 3 stupid groopies.
3) Okay, the movie is based on a true story, but it could have been better in my opinion if they made this movie as a real and not as a cartoon.
4) Some characters really annoyed me:
Alue-she is a bad imitation of Kiara and her voice is so annoying.
Dixie-she is annoying and I can't say why, but i hate her as much as I hate Alue.
Star- He is a bad imitation of the hyenas in TLK. I just wanted to hit him like Kaltag.
5) In the first movie there have no songs and a good cartoon in my opinion must have songs.
Sorry Balto fans.

But this movie has good things: I like Stella nad her design and 2 songs from Balto 3: "You don't have to be a hero" and "come on up and fly"..the plots of the first and the 3 movies are nice.

...this is just a thread in response to the TLK one to prove that the Balto fans are "bashing" you, isn't it?

1) Designs don't matter, so what if it's ONE character? Although Aleu's neck was out of whack. But Steele and Star's body shapes show his personality. And what poodle?
2) So Steele didn't kill anyone directly therefore he is not evil. He would be put down if any human knew he killed. Niju was however a very weak villain.
3) So if TLK was based on a true story it should have been live-action?
4) Each perception of characters to his own, but Star being goofy and a hyena being goofy therefore Star being a copy of the hyenas seems like a pretty poor reason. No offense.
5) Well, each to his own, again! Good movies don't have to necessarily have songs, however, in fact I dislike them in a movie yet I thought TLK2 was good. Interesting, no?

1) What’s wrong with Dixie’s paws? I thought they looked fine. Frankly, I don’t remember noticing her paws all that much, because I’m not nit-picky. The fact that you don’t remember who Dixie’s friend or Niju even are shows to me that you’re not terribly interested in the movie, and probably only gave it a cursory glance at best. And please, don’t lump Balto in with Balto 2 and Balto 3. That’s not a fair comparison, unless you’d like to lump the Lion King animated TV series in with the movie. Let’s see how far that gets you. Star seemed fine, and I have no idea what your quibble with Steele’s paws is. Let’s face it, you’re being nit-picky. There’s not one substantive reason to hate a movie in here. It’s like claiming you don’t like Gone With the Wind because you don’t like Georgia, or saying you don’t like the Wizard of Oz because you don’t like witches. You’re not doing the film justice.

Oh yeah, by the way, what poodle? What are you even talking about?

2) Yeah, Steele didn’t kill anyone. And so what? He tried to kill every child in Nome, so how’s that grab you? What, he didn’t throw Balto’s pops off a cliff or something? Yeah, that’s a pretty weak reason for not liking someone. I’m hard pressed to think of a whole lot of cartoon villains who actually killed anyone. So, in total, you must not like a whole lot of movies

3) You said, “Okay, the movie is based on a true story, but it could have been better in my opinion if they made this movie as a real and not as a cartoon.” I don’t know what that means. “Made this movie as a real?” I don’t understand. Retype it, proofread it, and get back to me.

4) You don’t like Dixie, but you don’t know why. Well, I’m sorry, but that’s not a substantive enough reason for me. That’s irrational and frankly, a little silly. Star is a bad imitation of the Hyenas? In what way? Because he’s silly? That’s pretty tenuous. I think you’re going to have to do better than that. Suffice it to say, he WASN’T a rip off.

5) I LOVED the fact that there were no songs. I’m so tired of every cartoon having 9000 songs for no reason. Let’s face it, this wasn’t a very happy story. Children were dying, there was no reason for Balto or anyone else to be singing. Frankly, this story didn’t NEED songs, and I’m glad that there weren’t any.

Also, in the future, please attempt to proofread your work a bit. I know that it’s the Internet, and no one cares how you spell things. I usually don’t nit-pick on spelling, but in this case, it made it difficult to grasp what you were trying to say. If I need the Rosetta Stone to decipher your keyboard poundings, you need to do some spell and grammar checking.

In some aspects one could say Balto is overrated - I wouldn't say it's 'best animated movie ever, bar none.' It's a fabulous film alright, but I don't think it surpasses films like Bambi or The Secret of NIMH.

I agree with Canis. Balto is not 'overrated'. It's underrated. I didn't know about it until I saw Balto 2 last year on Cartoon Network.

And I love Balto & TLK exactly the same; maybe TLK a little more.

In Balto...animation is spectacular; I don't see how anyone could dislike it. It has wonderful music, and unforgettable characters. And it has very powerful messages in it, and was based on a true story. It really is the perfect family film.

It is not just a masterpiece because its Disney! Imagine if Balto wasnt real for a minuet, then how much LESS wuld we be arguing about this, i mean come on, i like disney better than universal, but i dont go shouting it out. No i dont think Balto is overrated but TLK isnt overrated either! Just because its Disney, that doesnt make it any different, geez if universal made it i'd still love it!

Regardless of Balto, I still think TLK is sort of overrated. But it's just what I think. I mean, it's a good film, no doubt about that but I simply do not have such strong feelings for it as others do.
Remember: Just because Ithink it's overrated, doesn't mean it actually is overrated.

And I agree with you. Disney is much better than Universal, and not all masterpieces have the Disney label on them (The Secret of NIMH, for example).
