Yeah I know, this might seem pointless but I need help and thought your opinions might help me out... so okay...
At my school I'm a social reject and it's very hard for me to make friends with people. Now I realize I have a crush on this guy who only has one class with me, because my heart starts beating and I feel sick when I looked at him (did I mention light-headed?) But there's huge problems:
1) He and I barely know each other (We've only spoken to each other once or twice)
2) He hangs out with the popular people (They scare me because they're... *coughs* um... strange)
3) He's always surrounded by friends so it's hard to tell him how I feel in privacy
And I really, really like him a lot, and I want to tell him but I don't know how to approach him when his friends are around. Now I know his friends (they inquire me about stuff a lot) and they're nice, so I'm sorta comfortable around them when he's not there. But if they are there and if I tell him in front of them they'll either start their cat-calls and say stuff to me I don't want to hear. And the spread the rumors -.-
Please, I'm looking for advice on this!
There are different ways to approach, depending on the person. For example, if you approach him open-heartedly and say what you feel to him, straightforward and bravely, he might get impressed, and either turn you down in a kind and understanding way, tell you that he likes you as a friend, but is not interested in any more, or he likes you too (which is true in most cases) and wants to take it to the "next level".
However, you could also approach him more cautiously, and spend some time becoming better friends with him, and getting to know him better. And you must also open yourself up to him, and let him get to know you too. Only that way, you can find out if you are right for each others. Now, this is a -long- process, thus you need patience as well, but chances are higher that you will find somebody else before you manage to go as far as starting a relationship, the longer it takes.
Anyway, find out what you are interested in, and what you have in common. Allow him to demonstrate some of his interests to you, even though it might not interest you, and take an active part in his interests, but also allow yourself to do what you interest, and maybe he will join you.
You never know; you might find out that you, or he are interested in even more of the same things.
Anyway, keep it a growing friendship, and soon you will be able to start a relationship (seeing if he falls in love with you, and vice versa), but the only way to truly know, is to find out when you are ready, and then ask him.
A better way to start a friendship, would be to rather ignore that the crowd is around him, and approach him nonetheless. Have a chat, perhaps, be friendly, show that you're interested in becoming a friend (but trust me; saying that straightforward is also a 50-50 situation).
I am no expert, but these are some of my advices, and suggestions. And whatever you do, do not do something you don't feel ready for.
