I'm so evil!! I'm super strong!! muhahaha fear me." Nope, he's not like that, which makes him.. even better.
Without him, what would the movie be? Who else could play such a good villian? He's pretty much perfect for the movie. Every good movie has a villian .. Villians make the movie =) Exactly my point. People hate him for being a villian. He was put IN the film to be 'bad' and so on. And omg is he good at it or what?! xD He is just a perfect villian. Granted, he isn't that smart (would rather stay in the freezing Alaskan wilderness than go home with Balto xD) but that WAS a huge dent in his pride, which was basically all he had XD catwhohas14tails wrote: I didn't say I can't stand good guys winning. I said Quote: Its characters like Weed ... where they're so GOOD that I hate. Too good characters I hate. They're unreal cuz they're too "perfect" you know? Even made up stuff needs a sense of realism. That's why Steele make such a good character. Some people let fame and glory get to their heads, sometimes to the point where it gets dangerous. And I don't think it's fair to the character to hate him just cuz he's a villain. If he was like Niju or something, I can understand. But no, Steele's a well-thought out, yet unpredictable character. And I think even bad guys need a little lovin XD When people (well, most people) create a character, good or bad, they want him/her to be liked by other people. Why would someone make a character just for it be to hated? That's like giving birth to a child just so you have something to abuse. Its like just cuz they made Steele the villain or any villain for that matter, it doesn't mean they're necessarily there to hate XD Like my character Kita, she's the supposed "bad guy" and she hates Kiona, who I love. But I still love Kita. I could not agree more. Villians are there to be villians and do villian stuff, be bad and make life hard for the protagonist etc. Steele has almost every quality a perfect villian needs. Amblin put him in the film to make the film alot more interesting, awesome and gripping, and the film would be total bullcrap without him. He isn't there to be hated. People honestly shouldn't hate him for having the qualities of a good villian, because I'm almost certain he has his reasons. We know nothing of his past and stuff. He needs alot more lovin than he gets, honestly XD

Steele is awesome. And that's all I have to say. Actually, no, it's not. Steele is a great villain, because he's not simply mindless evil with no purpose. For a bad guy to be believable and entertaining, they have to believe that what they are doing is justified, no matter how wrong or sick that justification is. That's why, for my money, Michael Myers and all analogues of him will never be good villains. They're mindless, unstoppable evil. Steele is flawed. He believes that Jenna is rightfully his and although he doesn't wish the children of Nome any particular harm, he's willing to sacrifice them to get his way. That's twisted and, in turn, makes him a wonderful villain.
Plus, he's just cool-looking, cool-sounded, etc. He's so awesome, man, I don't even have words for it.

I agree with you Hrry. That's both why he's awesome and why I hate him.

But I still love Kita. I think in some ways, "hating" is a way of appreciating a villain. If villains are designed to be evil, spiteful, and nasty, then hating them is a standard response to their role. It's basically the reverse of the principal that if a bad guy hates what a good guy is doing (like Steel hating Balto), then there's a good chance the good guy is doing a good job of being... well, good. It works both ways. Now, if somebody goes, "Oh, so-and-so is a lame villain," or describes the character as a wimp or a wuss, that's different. But I've never heard anyone describe Steele like that.

Yeah, but there's a difference between hating a character and respecting a character. Like Tom Cruise, I think he's a wacko nut case, but he's still a good actor (well, he can be) and I can respect him as an actor, but not as a person in general. Probably not the best example, but hey, y'all are just gonna have to make it work in your brainz.

"Nice guys finish last" may seem to work in the short run, but it doesn't work in the end. It didn't work for Hitler, it didn't work for Hussein... you getting my point? But it worked for Stalin (and communism in general) and lots of other people (my mind is flooded with names of Italian criminals that you don't know), sadly the world isn't perfect. And it's still working with Microsoft. Not in the long run. Mark my words, anyone who hasn't already gotten what's coming to them eventually will. As the saying goes, "What you sow, you shall reap." catwhohas14tails wrote: Yeah, but there's a difference between hating a character and respecting a character. I think it's kind of like classic theater in a way: you're supposed to root for the good guy and boo the bad guy. That's a way of showing your appreciation for their role. It's like in movies when a hero dies, people (at least emotional ones) cry even though they know it's all acting. Why? Because they're drawn to the good guy through how well the actor filled the role.

What you're suggesting is that you should like people that are arrogant, greedy, and evil! Honestly, things like this shouldn't be compared to real life.

Yeah, "in a way" its liking the character. But aren't we talking about people who hate Steele not out of respect for his villainousness? XD

And theres the 'caring' side. He liked Jenna..so he'd be nice to her wouldnt he? And he WAS. So Steele is just one of those villians with a split personality i think, he has 2 sides to himself as i mentioned. He was mean to Balto because he didnt like him , BECAUSE he was a half breed. And if that wast the reason, reason escapes me! Whereas if Balto had been a 'purebreed' Steele might not have had so many problems with him, its just like racisim.
Well, Balto's ancestry may have been the reason Steele bullied him at first, but his ego was what made him a full-fledged bad guy. You'll notice he only tried to actually kill Balto when Balto got in his way (as he saw it) on the medicine run. Chances are he would have probably done that to anyone, mix or pure. As for being "nice" to Jenna, you might have a hard time getting people (particularly the original crew, who would of course be the experts) to agree that he was truly being nice. As I've said a hundred times before, there was no "Steele and Jenna." It was Steele and his ego all the way. Maybe he could have been nicer as a puppy (heck, my character Pete is an unholy terror and I think he was nice as a pup), but unless the animators make a call on that one, it's up to you.

Aw come on. Who could not hate Steele? He's a realistic antagonist, and that's quite rare in animated films.
