*GAH, double-post . . . and a bump!* UPDATE: TLM:AB is a go! Now, there is an official website on Disney's official DVD site for Ariel's Beginning! (Again, many thanks to UltimateDisney forums for this!) The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning - the real deal! There's not much on the site now, but it looks pretty spiffy. There's a trailer on the site and a sneak peek to come soon, but now, the release date is official - August 26, 2008 (same as above)! You can preorder the film now, but the biggest thing about the site's release is the fact that the main picture seems to add more to the curious . . . What's up with the locket? Are the two mermaids inside it actually Ariel's parents? Who knows . . . Alright, peoples - let's discuss! - Juuchan17

ASPLOSION!!!! Yessssss. Maybe this won't be as bad as the plot first sounded, because explosions always = good. I noticed however, that the start of the trailer uses some of the Pirates of the Carribean music... that's a bit of a bum.

Yeah, that's the same trailer that was on the TLM SE DVD, in which a "musical" sneak peek of AB was on there. I hope to God that the "musical sneak peek" isn't the same one that they'll put on the site . . . I want something new from it at least. So far, we have to deal with what we've got . . . and it isn't much. *crosses fingers* Or maybe we can wait to be spoiled with the official merchandise for the film too (I read a coloring book for Cindy3 a few weeks (or was it months?) before the film came to DVD; I was a bit spoiled, but I had a feeling it would be much better than the craptastic Cindy2. And it was.)! - Juuchan17

*Double-Post* Here's a big update! - Official TLM:AB site has a new updated trailer of the film! It's about a minute long and it's filled with new animation, actual character voices (Flounder sounds weird, but at least Ariel's the same Jodi Benson we know and love!), and more mystery to add to the plot for this story . . . But in case you want some pics, HERE! (I capped them from my Aristocats SE DVD, so it's there if you want to use them . . . ) - Juuchan17

UPDATE - 3/14/08
Check out the Disney website for TLM:AB - The sneak peek is up . . . a bit more of the basic plot is fleshed out in over FIVE minutes of footage!
Plus . . . You get your first look at Ariel's Mom! (The old crap trailer starts to make sense by the first minute of the sneaky peek . . . so it might be time for us to rethink how cool this will turn out!)
*Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*
Let's discuss it, shall we?

:/
It does seem a bit.. bland. Ariel's mother seems to vanish after that pirate-mermaid encounter, no mention of why music is banned as such (perhaps that musicbox was hers? And all music reminds King Triton of it?). Although Marina and Ariel's sisters make an interesting plot point, Sebastian wouldn't go against King Triton's rule if something was strictly forbidden.
I give this preview a 6.75/10. It's okay, reveals some little tidbits of the plot, but not much.
But I like what they did with the electric eels, in any case.

True, true . . . but I think it mightg have been the musicbox that got the pirates' attention (almost like the Sirens, from myths - luring humans (mainly men) towards them). I think I've heard that the musicbox was hers (and yes, her name is Athena . . . is she dead? Who knows? I'm still going with my theory that Athena was once human . . . why else would the daughter that gets so much of her looks from her soon long for the land?), but we'll have to wait. I thought Marina's character seemed awkward . . . but I'm starting to believe that . . . . Marina could be Ursula in disguise. (GASP.) What do you think? Quote: But I like what they did with the electric eels, in any case. Yesh . . . the eels look stunningly awesome. Marina's manatee (the large lumpy-looking thing in one scene) loked weird . . . but I like manatees so it's okay. This looks promising . . . maybe we'll start to see more soon! - Juuchan17

Perhaps Athena had some sort of relation towards the pirates? It is rather likely. I did think that at some point with Marina, they seem to have somewhat similar demeanors. Could be unintended though.

Juuchan17 wrote: Yes, this is official (Sorry if this topic's been done, which I think it has; I just don't feel like bumping an old topic)! If you bought the Little Mermaid PE DVD, you probably know that there is a TLM3 in the works from Disney. I predicted that it would be a prequel (of course, I think there were several others too), and the new title seems to prove my (I mean, our) point! Apparently, it is now going to be called "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning" (Yes, Official Title! HURRAH.). It's scheduled to be released on August 26, 2008 on DVD only (yay for DTVs?) with a music video, a featurette and some other things that have yet to be mentioned at the current time. (Thanks to Ultimate Disney for this bit of news!) There are some good things about it so far: mostly all of the original cast will return to continue their classic roles (of course, Jodi Benson (Jenna from WQ and WoC, in case you didn't already know by now) returns as Ariel, our favorite red-headed and headstrong heroine (lots of h's there . . . LOL)), and Sally Field joins the cast as a new villian, Marina Del Rey. There's supposedly new songs and other new characters too, but the plot is unknown for the moment. (If I hear anything, I'll let you know ASAP!) Feel free to speak your opinions on this latest news. What do you think the TLM prequel should be about? Later, y'all! - Juuchan17 EDIT: This Just In! - Apparently these are the only things known about the current plot for TLM:AB: - King Triton (Ariel's Father) has forbidden music in Atlantica (which to people who haven't seen any eps of the TLM TV series and/or TLM2, is the city that Triton rules over . . . basically, the main setting of the underwater parts of the first movie) for some unknown reason - Sebastian sings at a club that secretly plays music (watch the TLM3 sneak peek on the TLM:PE DVD for more of this, I think) - Ariel's mother will only be mentioned, not in it (WAH.) - Ariel is the main focus and character of the movie (unlike TLM2, in which her daughter, Melody, takes the helm of heroine) Unfortunately, the crew of the film is sworn to be all hush-hush about details of the movie, so it'll be difficult to tell if some information is fact or fiction. However, I will be sure to tell you once I learn more! By the way, a line of storybooks and coloring books promoting TLM:AB should be out sometime around May 2008 . . . and appartently, someone on the Ultimate Disney forums mentioned that Jodi Benson said in an interview that she had just completed a TLM3 album and the voice recording for the film. Whether this is true or not is beyond me. [/EDIT] Well at least its 2D animation. Right?

NinjaMasterKenny wrote: Well at least its 2D animation. Right? Yes. From what I know, this is supposedly the final sequel/midquel/prequel/whatever that is being animated by the DisneyToons Studios (which have made mostly all of the other ones in recent years), so it will be in 2D animation (probably with a dab of CGI or something, but it's not exactly the same as the original feature. Check out the Official Site for the Trailer and the Sneak Peek so you can see it for yourself! It's not too bad, but it does feel a bit awkward if it's before the events of the first movie. - Juuchan17
