I would have to say pure bred. But that's because I've had a bad experience with rescued dogs. I remember when we rescued a dalmation, lab, pitbull mix( her name was Penny). She was very easy going at first, but as she grew older you could begin to tell she wasn't brought up well because she became very aggressive to me and my siblings. I remeber one day my brother was in the back yard with her (He was about 2 years old) when penny nocked him on the ground and put her mouth over his entire face. That scared my parents to death and we had to give her to a family that hopefully wouldn't have the problem. But our friends gave us their pure bred pug (his name is Max) when they had to move. He is the sweetest dog I'v ever met. And we still have him to this day. But then we rescued another pug (more like a pug mix) named Opie. And we had some more problems. He was extremely territorial and would attack poor max. So we had to give him to a family that didn't have any dogs. Well that's been my experience but I'm sure other people find dogs that are just as adorable & sweet as my max is.

I'd say purebred for many reasons: I have two purebred pugs and they are some of the sweetest, smartest dogs you might ever meet. Also, often rescue dogs are put in kennels simply because they were treated badly by their previous owners and have developed behavioral issues. Rescue dogs are often older, some sick with illness and/or close to death. Sometimes the rescue dogs are poorly treated and taken care of at the shelter and can have many illnesses unknown to the family who adopted them. A whole other issue is background information. For instance, how do you know the dog you are adopting isn't in-bred, or has been used in dogfights? I am not saying that adopting a rescue dog is a bad thing. In fact, I support adopting rescue dogs, especially those from kill shelters. I am only stating my own personal opinion.
