why should it start a flame war? we are all nice on the forums arnt we?

I think it's fine that people do that, with the exception of at least showing the character belongs to universal in some way. It's their fault, not fans of the movie.

Of course it is un-original, which sometimes annoys me, but what can ya do with that?

Seriously....if Universal cared they would talk to the peoplee personally if they considered that naming a red-pup and giving it a life story was offending to them. They've made it quite clear they want nothing more to do with Balto since it doesn't sell as well as the first movie did and your avatar looks like a version of the red-faced pup with the same colorings (like cwh14t's charrie kiona) so I don't even know if its a big concern to you or not. I personally don'tcare about fan characters although Kiona is cool,they just don't spark me usually. Its a 2 dimensional dog that can talk so.....I don't get why people make big deals over Balto related stuff unless its the true story.

If you actually count how many "active" fan-chars of the red-faced pup there are you might be surprised. We all know Kiona is the most popular but besides her there are only a few proper fan-chars of the red-faced pup. I tend not to count the ones that are made because it's popular, so many people only make one because Cat has made one or because there was a topic for people to show them. There aren't too many ones that people created because they wanted to use them.

As for the whole "should we, shouldn't we" about fan-chars, it doesn't matter too much. As long as movies exist people will create fan characters for them, whether it be "unknown" characters in the background or people's versions of Balto & Jenna's second litter, as an example. Some people will never really like the idea whereas others will love it, just another part of fandom I guess.
