I will say this, Ryan Newman drove a smart race out there Sunday, he kept his nose clean and his crew chief Roy McCaully (his Busch-- now Nationwide crew chief in 2005 and 2006 when the two won quite a few races together) kept up the the changing conditions out there to put his driver in the position. Also, you truly saw how important it was to have teammates out there all weekend and boy Kurt Busch finally put Daytona's struggles behind him to make it a Penske 1-2 and Roger's first restrictor plate victory since Rusty Wallace won the Bud Shootout in 1998. Don't know if anyone remembers, but the 2 Penske cars had a great shot to win at Talladega last October and were right in the battle at the end, just didn't had the necessary help to put them over the hill. They had the materials to do it and showed the world that not only Penske is back, but Ryan Newman is still the Ryan Newman that won 8 races in 2003 and can come back to form. After all, his teammate Kurt Busch did make the chase last year and ran well throughtout the 2007 season.
As for my boy Jeff Gordon, we certainly had the car to win it. He was doing what very few could do early on and that was running in the bottom 20-25 laps into a run. Stevie had an awesome setup under the car, but it looks like we were a little too aggressive with it. Looks like it was the amount of camber we had on the front that broke that section of suspension (still need to do a little more research on that) that basically ended our chances. We had the car to win, I know that for sure. Now that we made that mistake, time to go to Fontana with basically nothing to lose right now. If we can have the same durability that we had last season, we will be in the fray for the win for many races to come. We still have 25 races to be in the top twelve, plenty of time to make the ground back up. after all, Tony Stewart won the Winston (of course now Sprint) Cup championship in 2002 after finishing 43rd in the Daytona 500 after his engine let go 2 laps in.
Will be interesting to see how these cars will handle at California, but I honestly think it will bring a little more side-by-side racing that has been vacant at California for the last few years.
btw, was anyone surprised at how well Sam Hornish Jr. ran yesterday? Man, he was impressive for osmeone with limited experience at Daytona. Good for him.

Carl Edwards won the race on Monday, and Tony Stewart lead all but 14 laps in the Nationwide race and won.

Sure is, but his car failed post-race inspection Sunday after the race, so we will see Tuesday what NASCAR hands down and if Bob Osbourne (Carl Edwards' crew chief) will be on vacation.
btw, A.J. Allmendinger has been released of his duties from the time being in the 84 Red Bull Toyota and is replaced by Mike Skinner starting this upcoming weekend at Atlanta.
