Balto was released the same year I was born, and at about... three or five years old I would watch it. Loved it! Then, I fogot it, although I watched it in about 2000 - 2002. This year, I had started to make stories, and then a story about a creature I invented came to mind. It involved wolves, but I wasn't really that interested in them. So I went to wikipedia, and started to love them. Then, a white wolf story came to mind. (although it had horses and pegasus in it.) I have a habit of drawing scenes from the stories I make up, and drawing also helps me think. Then, the subject of Balto came to mind. And in wikipedia, it mentioned this site. At first I ignored it, but after a while, curiosity got the best of me. I saw this site, and loved all the invented stories. I started to make up my own stories, and then I joined, where I posted them. Also I'm planning on putting an art gallery.

Our Grandmother bought it when it first came out and me and my brother would watch literally every day for an unknown amount of time. Some of our earliest memories are watching Balto. No joke.

We stopped watching it for a few years and put it in with the rest of our movies. One day me and my brother were looking thru the movies trying to find something to watch. We see Balto and we think "Why not?"

It is now my favorite movie. And will stay my favorite no matter what!!

I never knew about the title, I just had faint memories of a cartoon with huskies back when I was around 6. I never saw the movie because my family rarely ever goes to the movies.

Just this past spring, I had to do a report on an American author. I chose Jack London because I had a fascination with the outdoors and adventure in the frontier. I had to read a book that Jack London wrote and I naturally chose "Call of the Wild" because it was short and known to be his master work.

By reading the book, it rekindled my appreciation for dogs and wolves. That's when I remembered something back in my childhood about a cartoon with huskies. So I went onto IMDB.com and searched for themes like wolves, huskies, cartoon, etc. Sure enough, "Balto" popped up. I remember my first reaction, "Balto? That's a strange name for a movie." I just had to see it otherwise it would've bother me forever.

EDIT BY TOGO: It's illegal to talk about it, post edited.

Err...No. Far from that.

Actually, by coincidence, I have a friend (age 21) who has seen it. This particular friend is into a lot of kid's things (TMNT, Power Rangers, Transformers), and he seemed to remember quite a bit of it. It's not among his absolute most favorite movies, though. Also, another one of my friends has at least heard of it. I bet plenty of people at least know the title.

Back in 1997 or 1998 I believe it was, I think I watched the original Balto VHS (or at least, some of it). But then I think a few weeks after watching it, the movie was stored and forgotten...
...until early 2007. When I was browsing Google video, I accidentally clicked on a random video. So out of complete boredom, I started watching it, and noticed the name of the clip. (It had “Balto” in the name). Then a day later, I went back to Google video and searched for Balto, and watched a few videos until I thought, “I think seen this movie somewhere before.” In my curiosity, I went to Google images to search for Balto, and I found an image of the original VHS case. After I saw that image, I finally realized what I have been watching.

Your story is very similar to mine. The hiatus was almost exactly the same length. I never forgot what it was, I just forgot about it.

Man, it's almost a shame to rediscover it. I've watched it about 6 times since rediscovering it and I'm starting to lose interest. I don't think I've enjoyed it nearly as much as I did that very first time I rented it. *Sigh*

I felt that too some time ago, but now my interest is high again.
Don't you ever tried to change some screen settings to get new feelings out of movie? I liked to make my TV black and white and very dark, in the dark room, for example. I dunno, it's just bringing me right into the movie, I feel like I in this cold dark place in Alaska...
Or also you might try to switch the screen - instead of left-to-right, you can watch this movie right-to left (I hope that makes sense).
There's a lot more ways to look at the film by 'fresh eye', I hope you just won't loose interest at all!

But still, the plot, dialogue, and everything else in that criteria is the same. Besides, it was the original movie I grew attached to.

I wonder how many people will rediscover Balto when that DVD set comes out in November. We could get quite a few new members :P

BetaWolf, Togo, yes, agree, but also you can switch languages! Even if you won't understand anything, there's new sounds of voices of the characters! Watching fan-clips with different music is also can bring new impressions. allears.gif
