Ah ha, yes I saw that happen. I was in TLK box when I saw some one change thier name to ~Shadowcraft~ I know the users origanal name, but I will not mention names

I agree. I don't like it when people make a big fuss over names. In a topic I saw a while ago, someone told someone else to change one of their character's names 'cause they wanted their char to be the only 'Lightning'. All the while, I was thinking, 'Wait...don't I have a character named Lightning? Oh well, I'm not gonna change his name.'

I always try to choose a name, then change one of the letters in the name so not many people would choose the same name as me. Sometimes, people come up to me and say, "I know someone/has a character called Asher." Then I ask how it's spelt, and they usually go 'A-s-h-e-r". Then I'm happy 'cause I spell my character's name differently (Ashur) Same with the name Kyan. I spell it with a 'y', while most people spell it with an 'i'.

I agree fully. :] I had someone one time PM me telling me I stole a character's name from them. LOL! I just sent one back telling them how crazy they were and that you can't copyright a name. And my character had been around longer. LMAO! Whenever I come across someone who happens to have a character with the same name as one of mine I usually comment and say "Oh! I have a character named [insert name here], too! I guess great minds really do think alike. ;D"

But yes, I hate when people get all bent out of shape because someone has the same character name as them. It's just dumb.

The biggest problem though, are fan characters....

(Im not pointing out names, but heres an example I saw)

If they take the look, I understand to certain point.(Take Kiona's look. You cant change that fan chars look, its possible... but then it wouldnt really be Kiona, would it?)

Say you take... Naruto. And Make Those chars into a wolf. They dont have an Official look... so If someone takes the look you made up. then Hell yeah. theres something fishy that needs to be dealt with. Although, if they take your look and change one thing, then its not your right to really complain about it... because something on that char was from their mind... which pretty much makes everything else theirs. (Dont get any Idea's. Though they cant complain. Its not right) Say they took my char Saiya... and they change her paws around.... then I really cant yell at them... mabey ask them to change the rest is okay.... but I cant Yell.

As for the names... Really, ANY name cannot be considered stolen.... theres so many names out there... so many sites to find names... so many places to hear names. Whether or not you made it up doesnt really make it original... Someone else in this LARGE world could have have the same Idea... yeah. Asking them to change it is the best Idea... but if they dont, then just leave it. there so many other bigger things to worry about then names and Art...

What I believe is this- If you dont want it stolen, then dont share it online. period. Yeah, You want to show off your skills, but you should have it in you head that its at YOUR OWN RISK... And that theirs so many Bigger things to worry about then art and names and fan charaters.

really think about it. Compared to Life, think of how small things on this website are.... think of how small the wars over this stuff is. Its not even close to being as big as a death. So Why make a big deal over some stupid little name, or fan character? This is my OPINION Im not asking you to agree or disagree...

i am so happy you brought this up! i was just about to start a topic on this myself... i have had hate mail before saying "heidisart you have used my charecters name please change? " but you know what? i was so angry !

and another time on the forums anonomus (i want to keep names confidential to avoid embaressment)said oh my char is going to be called ada, i said hey thats a nice name so created a char named ada .... well they were not happy

i mean soem of my chars names are not common like harlequin or harinakshi .but they are names not made up and i wont give a hoot whoever uses them... ill feel great actually that someone admires the name

If you choose a common name, you can't whine about it. However, if you use a very unique name and their character looks a little like yours, then you can be suspicious.

No offense Kirada....but you just made a big deal out of the situation you are annoyed with others making a big deal out of.I don't know....I think the whole name problem is kinda lame....I mean even the characters that are "copyrighted" here are not really copyrighted. Copyrighting is something that has to be legally paid for to really take its effects. Sure you can get mad and say they stole my picture!!!1!!1 but unless you have a legal copyright if you take it to court and they find out you dont have a REAL one they will totally ignore your rant. I don't think people understand that. Yes, its wrong to steal characters but, people CAN get away with it if they want too...unless you are THAT desperate to make a legal (c) that guarntees,once again legally,that it is in fact 100% yours.
Hopefully you get what I am saying.

OH MY GOD.....are you seriously that slow? No offense,but its not that hard to get...the copyrights on here arent legal. Like when you put (c)Cobalt unless you payed money to the people who make copyrights legal like universal's is legal to the blato films,it isnt necessarily gonna be as cared about if someone went to court than if someone claimed Jenna as their own....if you dont get it now....Im not sure what I can do.

Actually, I'm ranting about people crying about it. So, yea. That point was overlooked.

BUT, how is one to know if the copyright is legal or not? The artist certainly won't have much proof but "©" and maybe "®". But anyone can put those down. So, how can we know if it is legit? We CAN'T. We have to take the person's word for it.

Now, since this rant is that old, and annoying me further:
