Although Cat does have her point (and some of us have our own opinions about it), I think that there were a few 'sad' moments in WQ.
1):
"Taking You Home" AKA the adoption scene: Although it's terribly animated, you really feel the emotions of the characters in this scene: Jenna's tears of watching her children being let go from her grips, Balto's worries of his only wolf-like daughter possibly to never be chosen by a child, and the puppies' excitement to be set free to begin the rest of their journey called 'Life'. The most touching moment is the ending of the scene when the song ends and Aleu is happily waving to her sibling and playmate since birth, not knowing that she is destined to never feel what that puppy is feeling at that moment.
I swear, when I first watched the film on VHS (yes, I have both copies of the film. I luv it.), I was in tears. I knew that Aleu wasn't going to be chosen, although she never doubted that one day someone would love her as much as those other five humans loved her siblings. Ultimate tearjerker.
2):
The Ending AKA Balto lets go: I think almost everyone (with exception of the WQ haters and those that think WQ was a waste of time) would believe me when I say that the ending was unexpected. I was actually hoping that Aleu would join her father with the wolf pack and they would lead together (crazy? Yes, I know.); unfortunately, the studios surprised me by allowing Aleu to stand up for herself and follow her wild, untamed heart that was leading her to the wolf pack in the first place. That final dialogue between Father and Daughter was so . . . *eek* so emotional . . . I still wasn't expecting that to happen, but somehow, I'm glad it did. Balto learned an important lesson: "If you love something (or in this case, someone), let it go."
I actually did cry after watching this the first time. It was so uncalled for, and I liked it. Still, I would have loved to see Jenna's reaction once Balto came back empty-pawed. XD
And that was it. Although the film wasn't flawless (please don't argue about that, ok? We all know the animation wasn't at best. You don't have to repeat it again. Thanks.), the story did have its share of emotionally sad moments.
